The Yucatan Peninsula had not only been hit hard by the pandemic, but it was also devastated by the Hurricane Delta early this October.

It affected not only people living in the place but also pets like cats and dogs. A catastrophe that led one person to make a difference.

A man went viral on different social media after he decided to open his home for 300 dogs. Ricardo Pimentel of Cancun, Mexico adopted the dogs as the dangerous hurricane closed in on the Yucatan Penisula.

Pimentel wrote on his Facebook that he rescued 300 dogs before the storm hit the place. It is a heroic act for the Mexican man.

According to Washington Hispanic, the Hurricane Delta touched down in Cozumel and Cancun, and it was reported to have winds up to 110 mph. The storm has devastated the places where it landed.

A published article in We Are Mitu said the storm caused power outages, fallen trees, and destroyed buildings and different businesses.

Fortunately, Ricardo Pimentel decided to help the stray dogs and made his home a shelter for the pets during the storm.

Taking care of animals is not something new to Pimentel. In fact, he owned an animal sanctuary called Tierra de Animales but he decided t open up his home to stray dogs and other animals before the storm hit the place to make sure that they are well-protected.

But due to the number of dogs and other animals living in his house, he asked help to ask donations that could help him to take care of the animals. He used the Facebook page of his animal sanctuary and asked for donations that he could use to feed the animals.

He wrote on his Facebook page: "If I lived alone or nothing else with about 10 or 20 dogs, I would not worry much. But there are hundreds of animals and we can not afford to not have enough food stored."

He also added that what worried him more are the food shortages in the grocery stores in the aftermath of the Hurricane Delta.

His caption was accompanied by his jaw-dropping photo surrounded by a sea of dogs packed inside his home. It quickly caught the attention of the netizens and started to receive thousands of donations of dollars in donations from different places.

Pimentel also wrote on his Facebook account that "your support at this time has been invaluable, we deeply appreciate all your messages, calls, and shows of affection."

"Thank you on behalf of all the animals in the sanctuary!" he added.

Though he was quite skeptical at first in asking for help, he continued when he saw how people supported him.

Pimentel also said that most of the dogs he adopted from his animal sanctuary have been rescued from dog-fighting rings and abusive homes where they have been badly beaten.
