Fans were left confused when Drake Bell took to his Instagram on Saturday and posted a video advertising his services in 'Cameo,' a celebrity "shout out" application. The content was surprising, wherein Bell relayed the message in English and Spanish. Shortly, Bell changed his profile name from "Drake Bell" to "Drake Campana," as per MITU. He also put a Mexican flag next to his name.

Bell released a dual Spanish-English language album titled "Sesiones En Casa." His strategy seems to be working, according to Spotify statistics. In fact, two of Bell's Top Five streamed Spotify songs are Spanish-language ones, out of his dozens of songs released over the year.

Why did he change his name on social media?

Drake didn't explain why he changed his name on social media, but it seems to me about his big fan base in Mexico, according to The Sun. his action must've been to market himself more.

On Twitter and Instagram, Bell's surname is now Campana, and his bio reads, "Para mis mejores amigos," which means, "For my best friends".

Bell also directly translates by Campana, so Drake seems only to have a simple translation, but he has not confirmed if he made the change legally, too. In November 2019, Drake claimed on Twitter that he would not be writing in English anymore, only Spanish. So this is not the first time he made a move to appear Spanish or Mexican.

Since then, Drake released Spanish language songs and hinted at focusing his attention more on Mexico than the United States in a mem-inspired Instagram post.

In a July interview with Esquire Mexico, Drake Bell described his decision and said that he wanted to do Latin rhythms for his fans in Mexico. "I wanted to do something like what I have heard on my tours and visits to Mexico. I love writing in Spanish, it is a beautiful language."

Drake said that his love for Mexican culture came from growing up in Southern California, close to the Mexican border. As he grew up near Mexico, he fell in love with the culture.

Earlier this year, Jimi Ono, Drake's ex-girlfriend, accused the singer on TikTok of abusing her while they were together from 2006-2009.

On the other hand, Drake publicly denied the allegations, saying that people are misguided for money or attention. Others noticed that Bell started rebranding almost a year ago when Ono's accusations became public a few months ago.

Bell likely wants to focus on his Mexican fans. However, there are no real reasons behind Drake's decision to become a Latin artist. One thing is for sure, his sales were doing great in Mexico, and if his rebrand aims to gather more attention, it's working.
