The Kingpin has been cast for Marvel and Netflix's live-action TV series "Daredevil."

On Tuesday, Marvel announced that Vincent D'Onofrio, star of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," will play Michael Fisk, aka Kingpin, the archnemesis of Daredevil.

Marvel and Netflix's "Daredevil" is one part of the companies' long-term business venture into the live-action realm of superhero TV shows. D'Onofrio is bringing with him a large body of past respected work that could propel the series and the character of Fisk even more. Now that D'Onofiro has been cast as Fisk, along with Charlie Cox in the title role of Daredevi, as announced by The Hollywood Reporter at the end of last month, the future of the man without fear appears to be looking bright.

D'Onofrio joins a pantheon of actors who have played the role: the late Michael Clarke Duncan in the panned 2003 "Daredevil" and John Rhys-Davies in the 1989 TV movie "The Trial of the Incredible Hulk," Comic Book Resources reported.

Besides "Law & Order," D'Onofrio has experience from "The Cell" starring Jennifer Lopez, "Full Metal Jacket" and also "Men in Black," to name a few. D'Onofrio knows how to go dark.

"We're incredibly proud to have an actor with the gravitas and versatility of Vincent joining 'Marvel's Daredevil' in such an integral role," said Jeph Loeb, Marvel's head of television, Variety reported.

In addition to D'Onofrio and Cox's talents, the show's executives have previous comic book-to-TV experience. Loeb is executive producer of "Marvel's Agents of SHIELD," "Smallville" and "Heroes." The "Daredevil" series also features show-runner Steven S. DeKnight ("Spartacus," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel") and Drew Goddard ("Lost," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"), HitFix reported.

The upcoming "Daredevil" is about Matt Murdock as he journeys through life blinded as a young boy but given extraordinary senses. Now, as an adult, Murdock fights against injustice by day as a lawyer and by night as the superhero Daredevil in modern day Hell's Kitchen, New York City, HitFix reported.

As previously reported by the Latin Post, there was speculation that "Dexter" star Michael C. Hall would play the role of Daredevil, and there has also been speculation that Terry Crews will play Luke Cage.

Marvel and Netflix struck a deal last November to work together on four shows that bring Marvel's The Defenders to the small screen. These live-action serials include the aforementioned "Daredevil," as well as "Luke Cage," "Jessica Jones" and "Iron Fist." "Daredevil" is scheduled for a 2015 release on Netflix with 13-episodes expected. "Daredevil" is scheduled to start filming in Hell's Kitchen in New York City this summer.
