New York Mets Pitcher Marcus Stroman took the opportunity to promote his clothing line after MLB and Diamondbacks announcer Bob Brenley sarcastically commented about the pitcher's du-rag that he wore while he was in the game. The MLB announcer's comment happened on Tuesday night, June 1, as the New York Mets had a match with Arizona Diamondbacks.

MLB Announcer Mocked Marcus Stroman for his Du-rag

USA Today reported that Marcus Stroman took to Twitter addressing the issue after his team lost 5-6 with Diamondbacks that night. As the talks about Brenley's racist undertones surfaced online, Stroman took the issue on a positive note and seized the opportunity to promote his clothing line. The New York Mets pitcher said "Du-rags coming soon," as he tagged the official Twitter page of his apparel or clothing line called "Heart Doesn't Measure Heart" or HDMH.

Although mocked, Stroman also took the issue into a high road as he posted "The climb continues through all," although "adversity and racist undertones" persist. Fans applauded how Marcus Stroman handled the situation. One user said, "Incredible attitude, Stro."

Moreover, a tweet saying that the "language towards African American" was not surprising, was retweeted by Stroman pointing out that those types of comments can't be said by him because "media will turn the issue against him somehow."

Twitter Error

The New York Mets pitcher's promotion stemmed out from the racial slur of the MLB Diamondback announcer. As the cameraman focused on Stroman, ESPN reported Brenley's comment on the du-rag the pitcher was wearing saying, "pretty sure that's the same du-rag that Tom Seaver used to wear when he pitched for the Mets." USA Today noted that another announcer seconded Brenley's comments saying, "got those 41 patches on the sleeve right there." The insider noted that the Brenley referenced the White, New York Mets pitcher, Tom Seaver, from 1966-1967. The outlet furthered that Seaver never wore a du-rag during his matches with the New York Mets.

Brenley's comments gathered backlash from fans on Twitter. Chelsea Janes, a National Baseball reporter, expressed her anguish on the comments saying, "a league and its teams forever pledging commitment to increased inclusivity, need to demand better." Janes added that Stroman deserves an apology.

The manager of the New York Mets also retaliated from what the Diamondback announcer has said to Marcus Storman.

"There is no room for a comment like that," said New York Mets manager Luis Rojas. Rojas also labeled the comment "completely inappropriate" and he was very disappointed he heard it. Furthermore, Rojas noted that if the comment was a joke, he did not get it.

MLB Announcer Apologizes for his Comments on Marcus Stroman

Meanwhile, Brenley apologized to Stroman through the Diamondbacks.

"I apologize to Marcus Stroman and have reached out directly to share those thoughts," said Brenley. The MLC announcer also noted that sensitivity training is an essential step so that he continues to learn from his mistake.

Despite the "du-rag" comments, the MLB announcer gave to New York Mets pitcher, Marcus Storman, details regarding the official announcement of the consequences for what Brenley said is not yet available.
