The Chicago White Sox will miss Nick Madrigal for the rest of the 2021 season after the White Sox baseman had his hamstring surgery.

The team announced Madrigal's hiatus on Tuesday, expecting the baseman to be fully recovered by next spring, according to an NBS Sports Chicago report.

Associated Press reported that Nick Madrigal was a "sparkplug" for the Chicago White Sox, hitting .305 while scoring 30 runs and driving in 21 over 54 games.

The baseman also became the latest starting position player to have a significant months-long injury and the first to be removed from the team for the rest of season 2021.

Chicago White Sox on Nick Madrigal's Surgery

Nick Madrigal's surgery happened on Tuesday, June 15, when the tears on his right hamstring were repaired. The incident occurred during the White Sox match against the Toronto Blue Jays wherein Madrigal tried to beat out a grounder.

Because of this, the team placed him on a 60-day injured list, hoping for his fast recovery so he could play again this year.

"To have the surgery, I think in the long term for him and for us, it clears away some uncertainty," said White Sox Hall of Fame manager, Tony La Russa, adding that Madrigal's surgery went well.

La Russa further noted that their baseman's absence would ensure that Madrigal will be "100 percent" while taking his time to rest. But the hamstring injury was not the first injury that Madrigal has sustained.

In the 2020 season, Nick Madrigal sustained a separated shoulder, but he still entered the 2021 season, showing that he could offer a lot more to the team.

Because of Nick Madrigal's surgery that will make him absent for the rest of the 2021 season, Chicago White Sox will depend on Danny Mendick, and Leury García as reserve fills in the second base. Mendrick started his role as the second base on their match against Tampa Bay on Tuesday night, June 15.

Chicago White Sox Expects Left Fielder Eloy Jímenez and Center Fielder Luis Robert

Since Nick Madrigal will not play for the rest of the 2021 season, left fielder Eloy Jímenez and center fielder Luis Roberts are expected to return.

On Monday, June 14, the team announced Eloy Jímenez's return after he suffered a ruptured pectoral tendon while attempting to run a home run during spring training. However, Jímenez is expected to spend the next month on rehab work then begin a minor league rehab assignment. Because of this, the left fielder is expected to return by late July or August.

Meanwhile, Luis Robert was not in action after he tore his hip flexor in early May. Details on the exact date of his return to the field have yet to be revealed.

"On both players [Robert and Jímenez], at some point, we would hope to be able to say that they've been cleared to resume baseball activities," said White Sox General manager Rick Hahn.

Hahn further noted that both of the players "are progressing well" after their injuries. Although Chicago White Sox had players who sustained injuries during matches, the team still placed first in the AL Central with a 41-24 record.
