Martine Moise, the wife of President Jovenel Moise, returned to Haiti more than a week after the tragic assassination of Moise on July 7 in their private residence. BBC reported that the president's wife flew from Florida, where she was treated for the injuries she sustained during the attack.

Martine Moise arrived at Port-au-Prince airport on Saturday at around 4:30 p.m., wearing a bulletproof vest and an arm sling. The Daily Beast noted that the first lady boarded a private jet that was accompanied by two security contractors.

Haiti President's Wife Returns to the Country, to Prepare Husband's Funeral

BBC noted that Mrs. Moise was photographed being greeted by Haiti's Interim Prime Minister, Claude Joseph, as well as other officials on the Tarmac.

Reuters mentioned that the office of Haiti's prime minister also tweeted a video of Mrs. Moise's arrival at the airport.

"The prime Minister Dr. Claude Joseph welcomes the First Lady, Martine Moise, who arrives in Haiti for the Funeral of her husband." the prime minister's office said.

In a tweet, Haiti's Secretary for State for communication, Frantz Exantus, echoed the statement of Joseph's office, saying that the first lady's arrival was part of the preparations for the national funeral of President Jovenel Moise.

Exantus failed to mention the schedule of the said funeral. However, the Daily Beast highlighted that the president's funeral will happen in the northern city of Cap, adding that an initial ceremony will be held in Port-au-Prince on July 20. The outlet further noted that President Jovenel Moise's burial was scheduled for July 23.

Martine Moise's arrival came as she posted online a snap of herself in a hospital bed, saying that her husband left her without saying his last words. "I, Martine Moise, still do not believe that my husband has gone before me without saying the last word, this pain will never pass," Mrs. Moise noted in her post.

The first lady also expressed her gratitude to the team who took care of her, as she was able to "hold on" during the incident.

Mrs. Moise was also reported to make a few comments on the assassination. BBC noted that the first lady recorded an audio message where she described how the suspects "riddled" President Moise with bullets.
