"Get over here."

Gamer or not, you've most likely heard that famous line uttered countless times. It's what Scorpion says when he unleashes his spear attack.

Now you have the chance to hear those haunting words once more -- "Mortal Kombat X" is coming. It has been in development for at least two years, which means when it finally comes out, it ought to be polished.

"Mortal Kombat (2011)" is the title most recently released. The wait between games will be worth it, according to Metro and Joystiq. That's because the 10th main iteration in the Mortal Kombat canon is expected to be the most graphically polished (which makes technological sense), but also by far the most brutal. The gore in this game won't be for the faint of heart.

Being developed by award-winning NetherRealm Studios, "Mortal Kombat X" will be adopting some key gameplay elements found in its predecessor, as well as in another hit fighting game: "Injustice: Gods Among Us." These features include an energy meter introduced in "Mortal Kombat (2011)."

The energy meter will allow players to deliver stunning X-Ray moves, which allow players to watch themselves break their opponents' insides. Players 1 and 2 can even watch as the brutality occurs, such as a knife breaking a bone into three pieces.

And for the first time in a Mortal Kombat game, players will be able to interact with their environment -- and to their bloody advantage. "Injustice" allows this as well. Past Mortal Kombat games allowed you to smash through the walls of the level and unlock new environments in which to "finish" off your opponent, but that was it.

The official news release describes the game as "cinematic" and "fully connected":

"Mortal Kombat X combines cinematic presentation with all new gameplay to deliver the most brutal Kombat experience ever, offering a new fully connected experience that launches players into a persistent online contest where every fight matters in a global battle for supremacy. For the first time, Mortal Kombat X gives players the ability to choose from multiple variations of each character impacting both strategy and fighting style. Players step into an original story showcasing some of the game's most prolific characters including Scorpion and Sub-Zero, while introducing new challengers that represent the forces of good and evil and tie the tale together."
