LeBron James and Los Angeles Lakers will not be able to make it to the 2023 NBA championship contention of the league's upcoming season, ESPN sports analyst JJ Redick said in an interview.

Redick made his comments as the Lakers are still in the process of looking for their new coach after their head coach, Frank Vogel, was fired from the team.

Speaking on ESPN's "First Take" this week, Redick claimed that the Lakers having a new coach would not get them into the finals of the league next season, per Clutch Points.

"The Lakers are not contending next season, that's not gonna happen. And we broke down all the different trade scenarios last week. They're not gonna be a contender. They're pretty much stuck next year," Redick pointed out.

Redick went on to say that the Lakers' big three, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook, would not be enough to carry the Lakers into the games.

"There's no way this core group, those three guys, with their lack of draft picks, with no real money in free agency. They're not in contention next year. Doesn't matter who the coach is," Redick added.

In the discussion, Redick also suggested some people whom he thinks will help the Lakers perform better in the upcoming season. According to the analyst, the Lakers should figure out a way to hire Steph Curry or Paul George, suggesting that the team should fill out the coaching staff with current players.

Later in the interview, Redick also slammed the Lakers, claiming that the team has a "bad roster with nowhere to go."

JJ Redick Slams Lakers Over Phil Jackson as Adviser in Searching for Coach

Redick's comments about the Lakers not making it into the 2023 NBA championship came days after the analyst and former basketball player slammed LeBron James' team for allowing Phil Jackson to be there advising in looking for their coach.

"The idea that they're going to bring in Phil Jackson to help with the coaching search, given his record as an executive in New York, and with the hires he made - again it's a pattern of behavior," Redick said, per Lakers Daily.

It can be recalled that during Jackson's time with New York Knicks, he hired Derek Fisher and Jeff Hornacek. However, neither of them have panned out with the team.

LA Lakers Say Goodbye to Head Coach Frank Vogel

The Lakers started looking for their new coach after the team removed Frank Vogel as its head coach.

It was unclear why Vogel was removed from his post, but reports claimed that the former Lakers head coach shared a fair share of criticism and blame for the Lakers this season.

LeBron James commented on Vogel's removal from his post, highlighting that he respects Vogel as a coach and a man, and he has nothing but respect for him.

Frank Vogel wrapped up his coaching stint with the Lakers with a 127-98 record in the regular season and an 18-9 postseason record.
