House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has made news headlines with the arrest of her husband, Paul Pelosi, after he was discovered to be driving under the influence in Napa County, California on Saturday.

Los Angeles Times reported that Paul was arrested at 11:44 p.m. on Saturday and was booked shortly after 4 a.m. on Sunday. The Napa County's booking report noted that his bail was set at $5,000.

The Napa County Sheriff's Department has yet to comment on the matter, while the House Speaker's office said in an email that Pelosi will not be commenting on such a private matter, which happened while she was on the East Coast.

Pelosi shared in a tweet that she was at Brown University delivering the commencement oration and receiving an honorary doctorate degree.

Paul Pelosi's Arrest

More details about the incident were not immediately available and it is unclear if Paul was driving alone when he was arrested.

Napa California Police Department noted that it was not involved in the arrest, according to a New York Post report.

The 82-year-old husband of the House Speaker was charged with driving under the influence and was driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or higher.

CNN Politics News reported that both charges on Paul were misdemeanors.

Paul is a native of San Francisco and has been married to Pelosi since 1963. The couple have five children together.

Paul is an investor who has typically avoided the public eye. He has been running Financial Leasing Services, which is a San Francisco-based venture capital company.

The New York Times reported that investors on TikTok and other platforms review Pelosi's stock disclosures and imitated his investments.

The Pelosis also own a vineyard in Napa Valley, with the couple having met at Georgetown University and married in 1963.

The two met while the House speaker was still a student at Trinity College. Both of their families had political backgrounds, but Nancy Pelosi initially had no interest in politics.

She stayed involved with politics in her community while she was raising her five kids, as reported by The List.

Pelosi said that she never considered running for office when her children were small, adding that it would have been impossible.

Meanwhile, Paul Pelosi found great success in being a businessman. Pelosi said her husband understands politics but he was not "particularly political."

Nancy added her husband is a businessman and likes sports, adding that Paul "plays golf and tennis. He's normal."

Paul has also dipped his business expertise in sports being a former majority owner of the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League.

The now-defunct team lasted from 2009 to 2012. The couple is now worth about $114 million as of 2018.

Paul has kept a low profile as compared to the lawmaker, saying that he has made a conscious effort not to be involved or give the appearance of being involved in the House speaker's political career.
