After two years, the San Diego Comic-Con 2022 is finally coming back to the San Diego Convention Center.

But with the recent coronavirus surge in the state of California, the San Diego Comic-Con organizers are strengthening their COVID-19 guidelines for the sake of its attendees.

San Diego Comic-Con 2022 COVID-19 Guidelines

More than 100,000 attendees are expected to swarm San Diego Convention Center this upcoming weekend after two years of virtual conferences because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now returning to a face-to-face set up, Comic-con organizers are upping their COVID-19 safety guidelines, as reported by Los Angeles Times.

Face Masks

Like most physical events mandate, All San Diego Comic-Con attendees are required to wear face masks, regardless of their vaccination status.

For those who would be cosplaying or dressing up, mesh coverings, neck gaiters, and damaged or torn face coverings with breathing valves are still not accepted.

Organizers pointed out that masks must "completely cover" one's nose and mouth and should fit "snugly" against the side of the face without any visible gaps.

Proof of Vaccination

More so, fully vaccinated attendees must present proof of their inoculation. Alternatively, they could provide a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours before the date of entry.

Comic-Con organizers have the right to remove guests who would not be complying with the newly announced COVID-19 guidelines.

On the other hand, ticketholders who tested positive for the COVID-19 virus within 72 hours of their ticket date can request a full refund via refunds@comic-con.org.

Children under 12 years old who will be attending shall also need a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 72 hours before entry to the venue.

"We are excited to gather again after such a long hiatus. But we want to be sure everyone who attends is as safe as possible. We will continue to update our website as new information becomes available, so be sure to check this page often for the most up-to-date protocols," the Comic-Con organizers promised in a statement.

The San Diego Comic-Con 2022 will take place at the San Diego Convention Center starting Jul. 21 until Jul. 24, 2022.

California COVID-19 Cases

As of this writing, the state of California has reported a daily average of almost 19,500 cases from May 16, 2022 - July 10, 2022.

Recently, California State officials have warned that the current coronavirus surge in the state may even surpass the Omicron wave that hit last winter.

For Los Angeles County alone, around 6,900 COVID-19 cases are reported, which doubled last Summer. This is because many who test positive do not report the results for fear that the actual numbers will skyrocket.

"The number of cases now probably is not all that dissimilar to what we saw during the massive surge in December and January," UC San Francisco Department of Medicine Chair Dr. Robert Wachter cautions.
