The month of July has been relentless for the White House as on its last day, President Joe Biden tested positive for COVID-19 again after being treated with Paxlovid, an anti-viral drug his physicians have prescribed him with.

This is the second time President Biden tested positive for the virus this month, the first being two weeks ago.

While in isolation and quarantine, Biden has faced backlash on his recent Moneypox outbreak response, among many other issues.

President Joe Biden Tests Positive for COVID-19 Again After Paxlovid Treatment

According to KVUE ABC, President Joe Biden has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus last Saturday again, his physician confirmed.

The result turns out positive after being treated with a five-day regimen of Paxlovid.

Paxlovid is an anti-viral drug administered to President Joe Biden's COVID-19 treatment to prevent severe illnesses caused by the virus.

Per the president's doctors, Biden belongs to the small perecentage of patients who had use the drug for treatment, who rebounded and tested positive again.

"After testing negative on Tuesday evening, Wednesday morning, Thursday morning and Friday morning, the President tested positive late Saturday morning, by antigen testing. This in fact represents 'rebound' positivity," the doctor announced.

Although the President has tested positive again, Dr. Kevin O'Connor, the president's physician, confirmed that he was not exhibiting any symptoms but still opt to remain in isolation.

The news came three days after President Joe Biden ended his "strict isolation."

Biden was back in the Oval Office earlier this week and has returned to working, noting that "COVID isn't gone." Turns out the virus has not left him despite testing negative.

Paxlovid Treatment Under Investigation?

Because of President Joe Biden's recent COVID-19 positive test result while using the Paxlovid drug, studies around the efficacy of the treatment have gone under the microscope.

Last May, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has cautioned the medical community about the reports of rebound cases occuring within two to eight days after testing negative for the virus.

"Limited information currently available from case reports suggests that persons treated with Paxlovid who experience COVID-19 rebound have had mild illness; there are no reports of severe disease," the CDC reported initially.

The White House echoes the same CDC sentiment, and has advised seeking physician approval before taking on the Paxlovid treatment.

Dr. Ashish Jha, White House COVID-19 coordinator, announced on a Monday breifing that the current clinical data suggests that around 5%-8% of people using the treatment have rebounded.

They have also reiterated that those who wish to undergo the treatment should consult physicians and pharmacists first before taking it because of the risk of rebound.

President Joe Biden, who is currently 79-years-old, has tested positive for the highly contagious BA.5 variant COVID-19.
