A hitchhiker in Texas, who stabbed to death a good Samaritan who picked him up at a Taco Bell to give him a ride, was arrested and charged with murder.

According to Crime Online, police recently arrested the 31-year-old hitchhiker Justin Glen Boswell, who killed 25-year-old Rowdy Mays before stealing the victim's truck.

Police were called to the Taco Bell restaurant in Temple, Texas on July 28 and found an injured Mays with stab wounds to his body and neck. Paramedics rushed the victim with life-threatening injuries to a local hospital, where he died.

A witness told the police that she stopped her vehicle after noticing Mays appeared wounded and started walking into the road. The witness added that the good Samaritan told her he was stabbed by a hitchhiker who took his truck.

Hitchhiker Stabbed Good Samaritan at Texas Taco Bell

The witness reportedly saw the suspect flee the scene in the truck and described the hitchhiker to police as a white man with reddish blonder hair and facial hair, according to NBC 15 News.

Rowdy Mays' mother provided police insurance documents, which helped them get the missing pickup truck's brand, model, and license plate. Authorities also managed to get bank records of the victim, which showed that Mays last used his debit card at a Temple Taco Bell.

Taco Bell's surveillance footage showed Mays allowing a man to get into the bed of his pickup while he was in the drive-thru. According to the affidavit, Mays was seen in the footage parking his pickup and allowing the man to get into the front passenger seat after leaving the drive-thru area.

The man was also seen buying a drink inside the Taco Bell earlier in the day. Rowdy Mays' stolen vehicle, a white 2019 Chevy Colorado, was recovered earlier this month in Rockdale, Texas, while the suspect remains at large.

Arresting the Hitchhiker in Texas

Police started receiving reports of a man showing erratic behavior in the area. Among those who contacted the police was one woman who allowed the man to use her phone to call a family member.

WLBT reported that police contacted the person the man called, which confirmed Justin Glen Boswell's identity.

An employee at Taco Bell was shown a photo of Boswell, including five other individuals with the same physical features. The arrest affidavit noted that the employee positively identified Boswell as the individual in the surveillance video.

In Cameron, Texas, police spoke with a man who said he talked with the hitchhiker at a gas station. The man noted that Boswell was acting in odd behavior, which prompted him to write the vehicle's license plate number that Boswell was driving.

Police eventually tracked Justin Glen Boswell down and arrested him. He is currently being detained at the Bell County Jail on a $1 million bond.
