Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has been hit with a "serious lung infection." Unfortunately, this has affected their upcoming shows in Brazil, forcing the world-famous band to postpone a total of eight shows. These include performances in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo.

Their concerts in Brazil were supposed to be part of their "Music of the Spheres" world tour, according to the BBC. All eight of these shows were supposed to be held this year, but have been moved to early 2023. No exact dates have been announced on when these concerts will resume.

Chris Martin Under 'Strict Orders' by Doctor to Rest

According to Billboard, doctors have found that Chris Martin suffered a "serious lung infection." The frontman's doctor has also strictly ordered Martin to rest for the next three weeks.

However, a spokesperson for Coldplay did not reveal any further details on the vocalist's "serious lung infection." However, in a new post, the band announced that they are "working as fast as possible to lock in the new dates and will follow up with more information in the next few days."

Coldplay also issued an apology to their Brazilian fans. In a statement, they wrote, "To everyone in Brazil who was looking forward to these concerts, we're extremely sorry for any disappointment and inconvenience, and we're so grateful for your understanding at this challenging time where we need to prioritize Chris' health."

They also asked their fans to hold on to their tickets, as they will soon release the rescheduled dates. They also announced that ticket refunds will be available at the point of sale.

The band also remains optimistic about Chris Martin's health and added that they are all looking forward to resuming their tour. They apologized once again, but also thanked the fans for their continued support.

While the Brazilian Tour Is Postponed, Coldplay Will Continue With Their Argentina Concerts

While Martin was sidelined due to his "serious lung infection." Coldplay will still be pushing through the Argentinian leg of their world tour, as they already have ten concerts in Buenos Aires fully booked.

According to The Evening Standard, the Argentinian leg of the tour will include ten sold-out nights. It will kick off on October 25.

One of their Buenos Aires shows will also be hitting the big screen with a global broadcast to over 7 countries. It is expected to happen from October 28-29.

While the band will be returning to Brazil in early 2023, they also revealed that the two April 2022 shows that were originally scheduled for Los Angeles's Sofi Stadium will resume in 2023.

The tour itself will resume with its second leg in 2023, with concerts happening in Manchester, England, as well as Cardiff, Wales. It kicked off in March earlier this year.

So far, Coldplay's Spheres tour has already sold more than 5.4 million tickets to date. They have already earned $60 million in concert grosses in July, with the band hitting $1 billion in career touring grosses. Billboard revealed that they are only the "11th act to surpass that figure in reported Boxscore touring revenue."
