Bullying has reared its ugly head, as Florida teen McKenna Brown, 16, took her own life last August. The teen experienced constant online harassment, forcing her to commit suicide.

The Florida teen took her life on what should have been a joyful period for her family, according to The Daily Beast, as it was supposed to be "the day before her brother's 22nd birthday, three days before she was supposed to start her senior year, two weeks before our 25th wedding anniversary, and one month before her 17th birthday," says her father, Hunter.

Three players in McKenna's hockey league were responsible for this relentless bullying campaign, and have since been suspended from the school league they were playing in for their role in driving the teen to suicide.

McKenna was described as a "fearless goalie on the ice who always put others' needs before her own," according to her mother, Cheryl. Her mom also told Fox 13 News Tampa Bay that "She was the one that would look out for people that felt left out."

After her three alleged bullies were suspended from playing ice hockey, the Brown family expressed their gratitude to the league.

McKenna Brown Bullied After Sexually Explicit Pictures of Her Surfaced

McKenna started getting bullied around the start of her life in high school. She reportedly sent a sexually explicit photo to a boy from another state. However, she had a falling out with a former friend and it led to that former friend obtaining a copy of that explicit photo.

That former friend then started distributing that photograph, and this started a wave of harassment and teasing directed toward the late high school ice hockey goalie.

Around that same time, McKenna was also sexually assaulted by an older teenager during a sleepover. However, her parents did not know about this piece of information until she passed away.

"Her first semester of freshman school kind of unraveled pretty quickly," Hunter stated. Her parents also hired a tutor, psychiatrist, and therapist for her in an effort to "put her back together mentally and emotionally."

Her family also admitted that they were not able to pursue any legal action as they were advised that McKenna might also incriminate herself.

Bully Also Attended McKenna Brown's Funeral

McKenna's parents talked to Dr. Phil recently, and Cheryl, her mother, admitted one of the three teens who bullied her daughter into suicide also attended her funeral.

"She left a letter that was very thoughtful and didn't call any of these people out," said Cheryl Brown, who told Dr. Phil, "...I knew it had something to do with these girls."

Her mother also stated during the show that her bullies were actually her ice hockey teammates; they were once considered "friends" by the late goalie. They reportedly tried to "cancel" her, according to Marca, after she started talking to one of her former teammate's ex-boyfriend.

Her mother believes that the bullies remain "unremorseful" and urges teenagers to speak up if they feel suicidal.
