One of the most powerful drug lords in the Dominican Republic named Cesar Emilio Peralta Adamez, also known as "The Abuser," finally faced a U.S. federal court on Monday. Authorities confirmed that he pleaded guilty to charges of drug trafficking.

According to the Associated Press, Peralta Adamez is a known drug trafficker and smuggler. He often imported tons of drugs from Colombia and Venezuela and into Puerto Rico and the U.S. mainland.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Puerto Rico, headed by Stephen Muldrow, said that Peralta Adamez is accused of importing cocaine into the United States for a decade. while leading a drug trafficking criminal organization based in the Dominican Republic.

His charges include two counts of conspiracy to import heroin and cocaine into the United States and one count of distributing five kilograms or more of cocaine for the purpose of illegal importation into the United States. He was initially charged in Florida, but his case was transferred to Puerto Rico.

After he pleaded guilty to his drug trafficking charges, The Abuser is scheduled to be sentenced in May 2023, according to the Washington Post. He was previously indicted by a U.S. federal grand jury in 2018 before finally being arrested in Colombia where he also operated back in 2019.

He was then extradited to Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory, in 2021. He may face between 10 years in prison to a maximum sentence of life in prison for his crimes.

However, as these events were happening, Dominican Republic authorities moved in on his drug business. They managed to seize four of his properties in the country, including one called "Al Panino."

He also owned several clubs, and they were among the properties that Dominican authorities seized in various raids. These include the low Gallery Lounge, Club La Koura, Aqua Club, and Inversiones Peralta.

According to N Digital, Cesar Emilio Peralta Adamez, known as "El Abusador" in Spanish-speaking countries, was the leader of a transnational criminal organization (TCO) based in the Dominican Republic. His criminal empire not only operated in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, the United States, and Colombia, but also Venezuela and the Netherlands Antilles.

He mainly imported heroin and cocaine from Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Colombia, and the Netherlands Antilles and into the United States and Puerto Rico. His organization often ships cocaine from Colombia and Venezuela to Puerto Rico and the continental United States.

Stephen Muldrow stated in a press release that The Abuser's conviction "demonstrates the Justice Department's commitment to disrupting and dismantling transnational criminal organizations." He added that the department will continue to maximize their multi-agency efforts "to bring to justice those who break our laws and traffic drugs into Puerto Rico and the continental United States."
