Arizona Republican Gubernatorial candidate and MAGA darling Kari Lake officially lost her race against Democrat Katie Hobbs in a very tight race in a very important swing state like Arizona. However, much like her ally, Donald Trump, Lake is still not conceding and continued propagating debunked election fraud claims.

According to The Washington Post, before the Arizona gubernatorial race was called in favor of Hobbs, Lake was inside her "war room" already looking through résumés and talking with allies about who to hire for her transition team as she prepares to take the Arizona governor's seat. However, her hopes were dashed just a few moments later when the elections were called in favor of her Democratic opponent.

The Post pointed out that her defeat was not a total surprise for her inner circle, as "some campaign aides and Republican operatives, looking at internal data, had grown increasingly doubtful over the last several days that Lake had a path to victory." This came as several political operatives around the former reporter worked to prepare her for what they largely expected would be a victory.

However, after her stunning defeat, several allies, including Trump himself, called in to express disbelief at the results. Lake herself stated that she will not concede.

Liz Cheney Trolls Kari Lake After Defeat

In Arizona, there had been a deep divide among Republicans, with the lines being clear, as the McCain Republicans took on Lake and the MAGA Republicans. The divide was highlighted when Lake mocked the McCain faction for not backing the MAGA candidates.

"We don't have any McCain Republicans in here, do we?" Lake previously asked while out on campaign. She then told them, "All right, get the hell out," before calling them losers. However, with her defeat, her divisive rhetoric was highlighted as one of the factors leading to her campaign's demise.

One of the Republicans that are certainly not part of the MAGA movement is the outgoing Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney. She famously launched an ad campaign that targeted MAGA Republicans in Arizona and urged the state's voters to not go for candidates like Lake.

However, the gubernatorial candidate mocked Cheney, writing a letter that claimed that her campaign received more donations because of the ad campaign against her and other MAGA candidates. With her defeat, this somehow backfired on Lake, with Cheney tweeting "You're Welcome" with a copy of the letter, according to The Hill.

MAGA Republicans React to Kari Lake Defeat

Mostly, Pro-Trump Republicans were confident that Lake would win, expecting a surge in the last remaining same-day votes to go her way. However, Hobbs managed to hold on to her lead and won a narrow victory.

This did not go too well with MAGA Republicans, with the movement's leader, Donald Trump, taking to Truth Social saying, "Wow! They just took the election away from Kari Lake. It's really bad out there!"

According to Rolling Stone, Trump allies over at Fox News also did not take the news well. When the network announced that Hobbs would win, Sean Hannity was "less-than-pleased" and stated that Hobbs should have "recused herself" from her position as secretary of state. Meanwhile, Fox & Friends agreed on air with Kale who tweeted that Arizonans "know BS when they see it."

Meanwhile, Trump adviser Steve Bannon was described as "clear-eyed" about Lake's chances of winning but still insisted to his viewers that there were Election Day issues with ballot scanning in Maricopa County.

Finally, Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk talked about recalling Governor-elect Hobbs, with several commentators in his show stating that it made "no mathematical sense" for Lake to have lost.
