The 20-year-old American actress, Jenna Ortega, is one of the most captivating young actresses today.

In an interview, she described her Latina upbringing and formative years surrounded by the Hispanic culture. She is  from a family of Mexican and Puerto Rican descent. She revealed her ancestry has had a fantastic impact on her career, per HOLA!

"Being Latina has always been really, really lovely for me," she said. "It's something that I'm very proud of. I grew up in a community [Coachella Valley, California] surrounded by all kinds of Hispanics, which was wonderful because I never grew up with any sort of shame or any sort of fear of my culture."

When discussing the importance of playing non-stereotypical Latino parts early in her career, Ortega underlined the need for representation onscreen.

"I always got really excited when I got those jobs that were open ethnicity or maybe initially meant for a Caucasian actor," she said.

She desired to extend a warm welcome to as many Latino individuals as possible, citing their attractiveness as a group deserving of praise.

She also noted that only three percent of Latinos are shown on screen and that Hollywood should make more effort to reflect reality in their productions.
