Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks would be getting a big backup as the Brooklyn Nets have agreed to a trade that will send Kyrie Irving to Mavs in exchange for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, and several draft picks.

The official NBA website noted that the deal comes just two days after the superstar guard, who was recently caught up in an antisemitism scandal, requested to be traded ahead of the February 9 deadline. Irving did not show up for the Nets' game on Saturday night, saying he was injured and therefore excused from being at the arena.

Kyrie Irving 'Ecstatic' Over News of Trade to Dallas Mavericks

As for Kyrie Irving himself, the Bleacher Report and TNT's Chris Haynes reported that the Nets guard is "ecstatic" about the trade to Dallas Mavericks. Haynes also noted that Irving was "looking forward" to joining forces with Luka Doncic.

The trade is still not yet officially confirmed, but this may be the end of Irving's tumultuous stint in his hometown team, the Brooklyn Nets, which certainly had many ups and downs.

While he has experienced much regular season success with the Nets since signing with them in 2019 in the hopes of capturing an NBA title with Kevin Durant, they struggled in the Playoffs, often getting eliminated in the first round.

When COVID-19 hit, and vaccines were made available, Irving refused to be vaccinated. Since New York law requires one to be vaccinated to play, he missed all his home games in Brooklyn and a few other cities that required vaccination.

His latest controversy may have also soured his relationship with many fans and Nike, as he was suspended for eight games after sharing a trailer on social media about an infamous antisemitic film.

He refused to apologize and repeatedly failed to "unequivocally say he has no antisemitic beliefs" after posting the antisemitic movie link on Twitter. Aside from being an anti-vaxxer and possibly an antisemite, Kyrie Irving is also a well-known flat-earther.

Fans Make Fun of Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James After Failing to Secure Kyrie Irving

James has been very vocal about getting the Lakers' management to make some roster changes. However, that may be easier said than done as the trade market coming into this year's trade deadline starts to thin out, as the Bleacher Report noted.
