The Voice Season 3 star Melanie Martinez is back, as she recently announced that she is releasing a new album called "Portals." The announcement comes after teasing that she has a new project on social media.

According to Talent Recap, this new album will be her third studio album, as well as her first album since the release of her 2019 album, "K-12." "Portals" will also be her first record since she left behind her old "Cry Baby" persona.

An exclusive trailer, which Martinez directed herself, has now been released and is currently streaming across various platforms. Atlantic Records will release this new album on March 31, 2023.

Melanie Martinez: 'Portals'

On Wednesday, Melanie Martinez posted a video of a gigantic egg hatching, only for it to reveal her as a pink, four-eyed creature. In an ominous press statement, she stated. "Portals screams death is life is death is life is death is life," adding that it was "A continuous loop. A circle."

According to Rolling Stone, the singer sported a pink costume reminiscent of a water creature along with facial prosthetics reminiscent of "Shape of Water." As she burst out of the egg, her newest song played in the background.

The singer also encouraged fans to visit her website to pre-order the album, as well as get their first look at her new cover.

"Portals" is expected to have 13 songs and an accompanying film, much like K-12. She teased this project a lot in the prior week as Martinez posted a 12 second sample of a song on Spotify with the lyrics "back from the dead."

According to The Music Universe, several physical editions of the project have been unveiled. These include signed CDs, two different lenticular CD covers, signed CD box sets with varying album oriented t-shirt options, and limited edition vinyl variants.

Who Is Melanie Martinez?

Melanie Martinez first made a name for herself in 2012 when she turned all three of the coaches' chairs in the third season of "The Voice" in 2012. She impressed all of them with her unique rendition of "Toxic" by Britney Spears. She eventually went to join Adam Levine's team.

She made it all the way to the Top 6 before getting eliminated, but her music career did not stop there as she would soon sign a recording contract with Atlantic Records and then releasing her debut EP "Dollhouse" in 2014. In 2015, she released her debut album "Cry Baby" and followed it up in 2019 with the release of "K-12."

In 2020, she released her next EP, titled "After School." It had even songs, including lead single "The Bakery," as well as other songs like "Show & Tell," "Drama Club," and "Wheels on the Bus." This new album will be her first new musical release in over two years.
