Donald Trump's legal troubles continue as a federal judge denied his request for a one-month delay regarding his rape trial filed by E. Jean Carroll.

Federal Judge Lewis A Kaplan of Manhattan ruled that the civil trial on claims against Trump by the columnist E. Jean Carroll will begin as scheduled on April 25, 2023, despite Trump's motion to delay.

According to The Guardian, Trump denies raping the former magazine columnist, even denying that he even knows her. He also claims she is not his type, so he would not want to rape her.

Trump attorney Joe Tacopina argued that his client's recent indictment in New York state court regarding the Stormy Daniels hush money payments, which had criminal falsification of business records charges, had created such negative publicity that a one-month cooling-off period was needed before the rape trial could begin.

However, Kaplan denied this motion, saying in his ruling, "There was, of course, a great deal of media coverage - some of it invited and, indeed, provoked by Mr. Trump - first of the apparently impending indictment, then the indictment itself, and finally the arraignment. However, the judge added that there is no evidence that a "cooling off period" is needed or effective in this case.

The judge also stated that the indictment was "of his own doing" because Trump himself made public statements on his social media platform, in press conferences, and in interviews, with the judge saying, "It does not sit well for Mr Trump to promote pretrial publicity and then to claim that coverage that he promoted was prejudicial to him and should be taken into account as supporting a further delay."

Kaplan also stated that this was all a delay tactic by Trump and his team and added that they have no justification for an adjournment.

The E. Jean Carroll Civil Case Against Donald Trump

Former Elle magazine columnist E. Jean Carroll filed a defamation lawsuit against Donald Trump in 2019. However, it was placed on hold by a judge as Trump was still president at that time.

However, the case is now moving forward as Carrol claimed that Trump defamed her by denying he raped her in late 1995 or early 1996, according to Al Jazeera News.

In New York, state law allows an individual to bring civil claims against an alleged rapist after the criminal statute of limitations has expired. This was what brought Carroll and several others to put forward cases they have against the former president.

DeSantis PAC Takes Aim at Donald Trump With New Ad Campaign

While Trump is dealing with a criminal case and a civil case back in New York, a DeSantis PAC has launched an ad campaign against the former president, who is running against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for the Republican nomination.

According to The Independent, the new television ad accused Trump of spending airtime and money attacking the likely Republican presidential candidate, saying, "Why is he spending millions attacking the Republican governor of Florida? Trump's stealing pages from the Biden-Pelosi playbook."

The two Republican frontrunners have been at each other's throats since DeSantis had been posturing that he was running for the presidency.
