Gerard Pique's mom, who reportedly helped his son hide his affair with Clara Chia Marti from Shakira, has broken her silence for the first time since the couple's controversial split.

According to The U.S. Sun, Pique's mom Montserrat Bernabeu appeared in her first televised interview with the Barcelona show "Collapse" in September 2022, a few months after her son's breakup with Shakira. However, she only talked about her work and avoided discussing family life.

"As everyone else does, I have a personal life and a professional life... But my personal life is only discussed with my closest friends and family," said the 60-year-old mom, as seen on the transcript republished by the Spanish journal Lecturas.

Bernabeu added that she was a doctor "focused on what I need to be doing." However, GeoNews later reported that Pique's mom allegedly considered the Colombian pop star an "intruder" and was "bothered" by the 10-year age gap between the former couple.

These claims come after an insider told the outlet: "We are talking about very closed environments... For many families in the city, if you are from Madrid you are already an intruder, imagine if you are from Colombia... For Montse it was a shock. She saw her from the beginning as an intruder."

The source added: "She was bothered by everything about her.... that she was 10 years older than her son, that she was a singer, no matter how successful she was, that she was not Catalan or at least from a recognizable family."

Gerard Pique's Mom Helped Her Son Hides Affair With Clara Chia Marti From Shakira

Gerard Pique's mom reportedly helped the former Spanish footballer hide his affair with Clara Chia Marti from Shakira. According to The Sun, sources said Montserrat Bernabeu knew that her son was cheating on Shakira.

El Popular also reported that Bernabeu even helped Pique cover up the affair, which is one of the reasons why the Colombian singer did not like her ex-boyfriend's mother.

"It's all because when the relationship between Piqué and Clara Chia began, they took refuge in a house that Pique's parents have in Cabrils, Spain," Spanish journalist Laura Fa claimed.

While Shakira was crying on Pique's mom's shoulder, Fa noted that Bernabeu "was an accomplice in hiding this new relationship," which really hurt Shakira.

Pique and Shakira ended their 11-year relationship last June before he went official with Clara Chia. Before their bitter breakup, Shakira allegedly hired a private investigator to spy on her ex and confirm her suspicions.

The detective frequently spotted the soccer star hanging out at the club where Clara Chia worked. Shakira first became suspicious after checking their refrigerator at their five-story Barcelona home.

The Colombian singer allegedly came home to find that her strawberry jam, which Pique did not like, had been eaten.

Shakira Left Spain to Have a Fresh Start in Florida With Kids

After Shakira was photographed leaving Spain earlier this month to start a new life in Florida with her kids, it was reported that Gerard Pique had already agreed to give full custody of their children to the Colombian singer.

Citing a Spanish media report, HOLA! reported that custody arrangements were settled before Shakira moved to Miami, Florida.

According to People En Español, the Colombian singer had to ask her former partner for full custody of their children in order for her to leave Barcelona, where she had established herself. The outlet said Shakira's request was granted "without major issues."

Shakira reportedly bought a mansion in Florida in 2001 for an estimated $17.5 million, and it is situated in one of Miami's most prestigious neighborhoods.

Before the custody arrangements were settled, Pique was reportedly "very annoyed" after the Colombian music icon only gave him "days' notice" that she was taking their two sons to Florida.

Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8, will reportedly start going to school in Miami on April 11, and Pique does not know about Shakira's plans. Shakira and the kids left Barcelona on April 1.

On April 2, Shakira confirmed that she would no longer stay in Barcelona. She took to Instagram to explain her move, saying that she stayed in Barcelona to give her kids the stability.

But now, she said she was entering a new stage in her life and wanted to be next to family, friends, and the sea.

"Today we start a new chapter in the pursuit of their happiness. Thank you to everyone who surfed alongside me so many waves there in Barcelona, the city where I learned that friendship is certainly longer than love," she wrote.
