Domantas Sabonis is set to receive significant pay after reaching a lucrative agreement with the Sacramento Kings, NBC Sports reported.

The All-Star center has agreed to a new five-year, $217 million contract renegotiation and extension, securing his future with the team.

What's particularly noteworthy is that Sabonis reportedly turned down even more money to prioritize the long-term success of the Kings.

The 27-year-old engaged in discussions with King's leadership about the importance of maintaining roster-building flexibility for the franchise, according to reports.

Instead of accepting a pay cut, the Kings are utilizing their current salary cap space to add an additional $8.6 million to Sabonis' earnings for the 2023-2024 season, bringing it to $30.6 million.

The reworked contract also includes a four-year extension, which will see Sabonis earn nearly $200 million more throughout his contract.

Domantas Sabonis Career

Dominating the court as a three-time All-Star, Domantas Sabonis has solidified his place among the NBA's elite, according to the association's website.

This season, he further proved his prowess by earning a spot on the All-NBA third team. Sabonis was acquired by the Sacramento Kings in a trade deadline-day deal in 2022, where he was swapped for the talented guard Tyrese Haliburton.

The trade has proven beneficial for both players, as they have thrived in their respective roles with their new teams. In fact, both Sabonis and Haliburton agreed to contract extensions this offseason, highlighting their commitment to their respective franchises.

Sabonis has seamlessly fit alongside All-Star guard De'Aaron Fox, forming a dynamic duo on the court. His ability to make plays as a big man has been instrumental to the Kings' success.

Last season, Sabonis showcased his versatility, averaging an impressive 19.1 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game.

He also demonstrated his efficiency, shooting an impressive 61.5% overall and 37.3% from beyond the arc. Notably, Sabonis led the league with 65 double-doubles, a testament to his consistency and impact on the court.

His partnership with Fox has paid dividends for the Kings, evidenced by their league-leading 118.6 offensive ratings.

The team enjoyed a successful season, snapping the NBA's longest active playoff drought with a record of 48-34. The Kings also clinched their first Pacific Division title since the 2002-03 season.

While they were eliminated in the first round of the NBA Playoffs by the Golden State Warriors, the future looks bright for the Kings.

With Sabonis, Fox, and a talented supporting cast, they have established a solid core that promises continued success in the seasons to come.

Sacramento Kings

The Sacramento Kings are poised to build upon their recent success as they retain all five starters for the upcoming season, along with key reserves such as Malik Monk, Trey Lyles, and Alex Len.

This continuity in the roster provides a strong foundation for the team's future, per The Sacramento Bee.

In recognition of their impressive achievements, General Manager Monte McNair and Head Coach Mike Brown were rewarded with three-year contract extensions in January.

These extensions align their contracts with that of team owner Vivek Ranadivé through the end of the 2025-26 season.

Under their leadership and individual staff, the Kings have undergone a remarkable transformation in roster construction and team culture. This positive shift comes after enduring 16 consecutive losing seasons.

The accolades have poured in for the Kings' success. Coach Mike Brown, who guided the team to newfound heights, was named the NBA Coach of the Year, becoming the first unanimous selection in league history.

Monte McNair, the mastermind behind the team's roster construction, was honored as the NBA Executive of the Year.

The stellar performances of De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, orchestrating an offense that set a record with the highest offensive rating in NBA history (119.4), earned them the highest individual honors of their careers.

The Kings' dramatic improvement is evident in their win-loss record. After finishing the 2021-22 season with a 30-52 record, the team surged to 48 wins, making significant strides on the court.

This marked their first playoff appearance in 17 years. Such progress is a testament to the stability and organizational structure established under the leadership of McNair, Brown, and Ranadivé.
