A grim discovery unfolded in San Francisco's iconic Golden Gate Park on Sunday evening as a woman's lifeless body was found within a large duffle bag.

The incident prompted swift responses from law enforcement and authorities, casting a somber shadow over the conclusion of the Outside Lands concert, a three-day event taking place in the vicinity, according to The San Francisco Standard.

The woman's corpse was discovered around 7:24 pm, near Fulton Street and 22nd Avenue.

Responding to the scene were members of the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), the city's medical examiner's office, and specialized homicide investigators.

The park's Stow Lake boathouse, situated north of the incident site, was the epicenter of their activity.

Officer Kevin Gil, present at the scene, shared that a dog walker was the first to encounter the duffle bag, leading to the grim discovery.

As SFPD officers used flashlights to meticulously search the vegetated area, cordoned off with police tape, curious onlookers consisting of departing festival attendees from Outside Lands and residents observed the unfolding investigation.

The cause of the woman's death remains undetermined at this juncture.

Spearheaded by the SFPD Homicide Detail, the investigation is ongoing, marked by a roped-off section of the park dedicated to the inquiry.

Outside Lands organizers issued a statement indicating that the matter is under the purview of the SFPD and directed inquiries in that direction.

Deceased Woman in Duffle Bag Identified

The woman discovered deceased within the duffle bag in Golden Gate Park has been identified as Kelly Koike, a 37-year-old resident of San Francisco, as confirmed by the city's chief medical examiner's office, per CBS News.

As investigators continued their work, officers erected a canopy to shield the area where the body was located.

Despite the ongoing police activity, music from performers at the Outside Lands festival could still be heard, as the event was scheduled to conclude around 9:30 pm.

The San Francisco County Medical Examiner's arrival on the scene marked a pivotal moment, as the death was officially categorized as suspicious.

The SFPD Homicide Detail has assumed control of the investigation, delving into the circumstances surrounding Koike's untimely demise.

Community members interviewed the following day expressed heightened concerns about park security, particularly during events such as Outside Lands.

They cited the incident as a reminder of the need for enhanced safety measures. They noted that it underscores their hesitation to visit Golden Gate Park after dark or venture onto dirt trails.
