The dysfunction in the Republican Party has been laid bare as the US House Speaker elections continue after Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan lost for the third time and lost even more votes than before. He previously attempted to use intimidation and strongarm tactics to get other Republican holdouts to flip but that backfired on him, with some even voting for deposed Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

Republicans have now decided to replace Jordan as their US House Speaker nominee after his three failed tries and they must choose a new nominee on Tuesday during a secret anonymous ballot. However, this comes after a closed-door meeting on Monday.

According to Fox News, there are now nine House Republicans who have thrown their hats into the US House Speaker election. The first one is Republican Study Committee Chair Kevin Hern of Oklahoma who admitted that the GOP must unify and "do it fast."

Rep. Jack Bergman of Michigan also entered the race, and so did Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida. Donalds was one of the people voted for by Jordan dissenters during the US House Speaker election.

Majority Whip Tom Emmer of Minnesota, GOP Conference Vice Chair Mike Johnson of Louisiana, Rep. Dan Meuser of Pennsylvania, and Gary Palmer of Alabama have also entered the race, with some already making calls to their Republican colleagues about trying to become the next Speaker of the House.

Rep. Austin Scott of Georgia, who challenged Jordan during the previous secret ballot, is also trying again, and so is Rep. Pete Sessions. Meanwhile, Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington of Texas, told reporters he was "seriously considering" a run for speaker. However, he has now opted out of the race.

Republicans Continue Infighting Amid US House Speaker Election

After failing for the third time, Jordan simply stated, "We put the question to them, they made a different decision."

The former Ohio State University wrestling coach added that his party needs to come together and figure out who their speaker is going to be. This comes as the Republican Party continues to be fractured among many factions.

"We're in a very bad place right now," admitted deposed former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who has so far kept to his promise of not running for Speaker again. Meanwhile, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, whose bid failed after losing one vote, noted that Republicans needed to "start over."

Republicans Dysfunction Laid Bear After Another Failed Bid During US House Speaker Election

A Republican civil war between those fiercely loyal to former President Donald Trump and the more traditional and moderate Republicans has been brewing for a while now. However, this has barely been covered on right-wing media outlets that tend not to cover Republican infighting. However, as Republicans once again fail to get a new House Speaker, this dysfunction has been exposed to the rightwing audience.

From Republican representatives receiving death threats for not voting for Jim Jordan to the feuds between Republicans spilling out into the public eye, a lot of people have caught on to the turmoil within the party.

"When you look at the damage to the party's image, its reputation, its ability to do anything substantive or serious, this is a week of unmitigated disaster for the Republican party," Lincoln Project co-founder Rick Wilson told The Guardian.
