George Santos is standing firm despite his fellow House Republicans pushing for his resignation. This comes as Democrats put forward a measure to finally expel him from Congress after that damning House Ethics Committee report found that he was responsible for misappropriating campaign funds to pay for his lavish lifestyle.

More and more lawmakers from both parties are supporting George Santos's expulsion from Congress, with George Santos himself expecting that he will be expelled soon.

Things have since gotten worse for the embattled New York Republican as two Democrats are forcing the GOP's hand as an expulsion vote now has to happen by Tuesday, per Axios.

With the vote coming up, Santos reportedly met with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and other top Republicans on Tuesday and there had been calls for Santos to resign instead. However, the New York congressman who once claimed to be Jewish despite being a Roman Catholic with Brazilian roots reiterated that he would not resign.

Republican Study Committee Chair Kevin Hern of Oklahoma also described multiple phone calls between Speaker Johnson and Rep. Santos, saying that they have had conversations up until recently, even an hour ago, about [how] the right thing ... would be for him to examine [his] position and resign."

Meanwhile, South Dakota Republican Rep. Dusty Johnson, who was also in the meeting, stated that Johnson is "trying to get him to thoughtfully consider what is best for the institution." Despite this, Santos has remained defiant of his Republican colleagues and refuses to resign, opting to fight his expulsion until the end.

California Democrat Forces Vote on George Santos Expulsion on House Floor

A few days after the House Ethics Committee found Santos committed fraud, Democratic Rep. Robert Garcia of California put forward a resolution to expel the embattled House Republican. This is a privileged resolution, which means Republican leaders must take up the matter within two legislative days and that this must now happen by Thursday.

Santos has survived two previous attempts to expel him from Congress. However, this third one after the Ethics Committee findings came out might finally do it, though CNN pointed out that it is not yet clear if there will be enough votes to go over that 2/3 threshold required to expel a congressman, though more House representatives have come out to support expulsion than the previous votes.

House Speaker Mike Johnson Addresses Phone Call with George Santos About Expulsion

House Speaker Mike Johnson recently spoke with reporters and talked about his conversation with George Santos before Thanksgiving, saying that the meeting between them had been "positive."

"I've spoken to Congressman Santos at some length over the holiday and talked with him about his options," the Louisiana Republican told reporters. "But we'll have to see. It's not yet determined, but we'll be talking about that when we get back tomorrow."
