After breaking records with her Eras Tour, Taylor Swift has certainly proven that he commands plenty of influence, therefore getting Time Magazine to name her their 2023 Person of the Year.

Taytay sat down with Time Magazine's Sam Lansky and talked about how she started in the music industry, with the writer saying that when she tells a story, "You listen, because you know it's going to be good-not only because she's had an extraordinary life, but because she's an extraordinary storyteller."

The magazine heaped praise on the highly influential pop star, stating, "Swift's accomplishments as an artist-culturally, critically, and commercially-are so legion that to recount them seems almost beside the point."

Time Magazine also stated that as a pop star, she is in elite company with the likes of Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, and Madonna. As a songwriter, she can be compared to the likes of o Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, and Joni Mitchell.

For her influence outside of music, the magazine noted that Swift has built an empire worth over $1 billion. As a celebrity, Swift's life has been scrutinized widely, from who she is dating to what she is wearing, and she does this by knowing how to command attention and how to use it.

"I don't give Taylor advice about being famous, she doesn't need it," Stevie Nicks told Time Magazine regarding how Taylor Swift is fully aware of just how famous she is.

As to why they chose Taylor Swift as their Person of the Year despite all the things happening in the world, from the Ukraine War to the War in Gaza, Time Magazine wrote, "If you're skeptical, consider it: How many conversations did you have about Taylor Swift this year? How many times did you see a photo of her while scrolling on your phone?" How much the singer has been discussed or seen around the world this year has been so staggering, enough to prove that she commanded the most influence in 2023.

Taylor Swift Breaks Time Magazine Record By Being Named Person of the Year 2023

This Person of the Year win by Taylor Swift also made history as she is the first woman to ever be named the Time Magazine Person of the Year twice. She previously won it in 2017 for being recognized as one of the Silence Breakers who inspired women to speak out about sexual misconduct, according to Yahoo! News.

The award had been known as "Man of the Year" until Time Magazine changed it in 1999 when more and more women were gaining influence in the world. Women such as former Philippine President Corazon Aquino, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Queen Elizabeth II, climate activist Greta Thunberg, and many others have been named before. However, Swift is the only woman to win it twice.
