This past Saturday, both the United States Agency for International Development and the US Embassy in Bogotá, Colombia issued a statement urging "all Facebook users and the general public to exercise caution and ignore any posts or links that orginate from the USAID Colombia Facebook account."

Panic ensued after the organization's staff members identified a security breach that could result in a "potential risk" in the organization's official Facebook account.

The agency reassured followers that their team is "actively working to restore account security and investigate the extent of the breach." According to the Associated Press, "the agency did not immediately respond to questions on the impact and status of the hack."
