Peru President Dina Boluarte gets two major victories in Congress as she will not be impeached over the Rolex Scandal, and her cabinet won a crucial vote of confidence as she faces recent attempts to kick her out of office once again in what many consider one of the most volatile democracies on Earth.

The Peruvian president is accused of improperly acquiring a collection of high-end watches that she did not disclose in her financial reports as vice president of Peru, and she also did not disclose her luxury watch collection when she became president following the ouster of her former running mate, Pedro Castillo.

She has since denied any wrongdoing but admitted that she does own a luxury watch collection after police raided her home and took pictures of these watches. She stated that she got these watches through hard work, but the case has since become complicated as bank deposits "of unknown origin" and other jewelry, including a valuable Cartier bracelet, have also been discovered, according to Reuters.

The Peruvian Congress voted twice on Thursday on whether or not they would impeach the embattled president. On both occasions, Congress rejected the attempts to bring the topic of impeachment to debate.

The lawmakers rejected the motion 49-33 in the first vote, with 12 lawmakers abstaining. On the second vote, more joined in on dismissing the motion to debate the impeachment, with 59 votes against, 21 in favor, and 11 lawmakers abstaining.

The scenario was deemed unlikely as Dina Boluarte is still considered a leftist, and the conservative and right-wing lawmakers who were supposed to be against her voted against her impeachment. These lawmakers stated they sought to avoid a major crisis as Boluarte did not have a likely successor.

Peru Governors Testified in Investigation Into Dina Boluarte Rolex Scandal

Meanwhile, as Boluarte avoided impeachment in Peru's unitary Congress, the Attorney General's Office received testimonies from several governors in relation to the Rolex scandal.

Governor of Cusco, Wilfredo Oscorima, and the Governor of Ayacucho, Wilfredo Oscorima, gave sworn testimonies into the matter, with Governor Oscorima being reportedly questioned for purchasing a Rolex watch that had the same characteristics as those owned by Boluarte.

Meanwhile, Governor Salcedo handed over two Rolex watches to authorities but complained that police did not have to break the doors down when they raided President Boluarte's residence last weekend, according to TeleSUR English.

Peru President Dina Boluarte's New Cabinet Win Vote of Confidence in Congress

Meanwhile, just a day before Congress struck down impeachment attempts against Boluarte, the lawmakers also approved her new cabinet. This came after six ministers resigned soon after police raided the president's home to look for the Rolex watches.

According to France 24, Peru's Congress passed the replacement ministers with 70 in favor and 38 against, with 17 lawmakers abstaining. This gave new Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzen the chance to move forward in his post.
