It has been weeks since the death of the suspected murderer and former NFL great, OJ Simpson, but the family of his victim and ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, remain silent... until now.

Nicole Brown Simpson was OJ's wife, but she and her friend, Ron Goldman, were killed in cold blood. While "The Juice" was initially acquitted of the crime of murdering them, following civil cases found the former NFL star liable for their deaths.

With the 30th anniversary of her murder approaching, Brown Simpson's sisters, Denise Brown, Dominique Brown, and Tanya Brown, finally broke their silence in an interview with PEOPLE Magazine.

"This is a person who's been in our life for a very long time, who wreaked havoc on our family," said Tanya Brown. "It's like the end of a chapter," but adding that "It's very complicated."

The interview comes ahead of the documentary about their sister, "The Life & Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson," which is slated to premiere on June 1 via Lifetime. It will follow the life and violent death of Nicole Brown Simpson, touching up on her tumultuous marriage to OJ Simpson, who was once one of the most beloved sports and entertainment figures in the US.

"Other anniversaries just didn't feel right," Denise added in the interview, which will hit newsstands on Friday. "But we decided 30 years was probably the best and the last time to hear her voice and tell her story."

"She's not a dead body covered with a white sheet at the bottom of the stairs. That's not Nicole. We want people to see this beautiful human being," added Tanya Brown. "I'm so glad that she had a good time the last two years of her life. "I can't bring her back, so why not try to look at it like that?"

Nicole Brown Simpson's Sisters Alleged That OJ Simpson Abused Her

In that same interview, the sisters revealed that Nicole faced abuse at the hands of OJ Simpson and that the documentary will show her "loved ones recalled her living in fear of him, even allegedly keeping track of the times he harmed her."

"She always thought he was going to hurt her," said one of the sisters in a clip. "She always knew it."

"Her life was stolen from her and while her abuser is finally gone, it doesn't take away the anguish we feel or the pain of her children who lost their mother," the sisters added in another interview. "We hope that by sharing Nicole's story, it will help others recognize the signs and get the help they need and her legacy will continue to live on."

Nicole Brown Simpson Documentary Will Show Her Side of the Story

Despite being announced a few weeks after the death of OJ Simpson, "The Life and Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson" has already been in the works for more than a year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Lifetime released a statement on the docuseries, which it claims "provides an opportunity for Nicole's own narrative and voice to be heard in one of the most notorious crimes and trials in history." The network said it will reveal "shocking new details in the tragic story" and will "shed new light" on her life and death.
