The first stage of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Colombia 2024 has concluded, with some Latin American nations showing positive performance that led them into the Round of 16. Here's how they fared:
Colombia Leads Group A
In Group A, Colombia emerged as the standout team, winning all three of their matches to top the group. Mexico followed closely, securing second place with 4 points. Cameroon and Australia, the other teams in the group, finished at the bottom and exited the competition.
Brazil Dominates Group B
Brazil was the sole Latin American representative in Group B and showed their dominance by winning all three of their matches, finishing top of the group with a perfect score: 9 points.
Paraguay and Venezuela Face Early Exits
In Group C, Paraguay was eliminated after finishing third with 3 points, falling short of leaders Spain and the United States. Similarly, in Group D, Venezuela ended in last place, with two losses and one draw across their three matches.
Argentina Makes History in Group F
In a historic achievement, Argentina qualified for the Round of 16 for the first time in a FIFA Women's U-20 World Cup. They secured third place in Group F, behind North Korea and the Netherlands, but with enough points to advance as one of the four best third-place teams in the tournament.
