Hours after treding following his firing on live TV, Mexican journalist Gustavo Macalpin spoke out. He promised to continue making political commentary and assuring that he won't be censored.

In a video uploaded on TikTok, Macalpin explained what in his opinion were the causes of his departure from the channel and also analyzed the reasons that could have led the owner of the television station to make the decision to close the cycle.

The host of 'Ciudadano 2.0', which airs on the Mexican city of Mexicali, details how surprised he was after the network president entered the frame and fired him live. In spite of this, he was able to finish the segment because of the professionalism that characterizes him.

"They tell me that this is my last day, without prior notice, after seven years at the helm -I say this with great pride- of the most successful program of this channel (...) Look, what I do is political criticism, so I think you can draw your own conclusions", he said in front of the camera.

However, Macalpin said that contrary to what has been said on the Internet, he does not believe that his dismissal was due to the criticism he made against Carlos Torres Torres, husband of the governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda.

"I don't think it was an impulse issue, I think it is something that the owner of the TV station had already decided after a long time", he commented in reference to his constant editorials where he has criticized the system and Mexican politics, before adding that he feels he did a great job on the small screen.

"What's next? Well, obviously I'm going to continue doing 'pinche' political criticism," he said before closing by asking for the support of all his followers for future projects.

As expected, the response generated by Macalpin went viral in a matter of hours and thousands commented on the material. Many of them responded with messages of solidarity and affection, but others took the journalist's comments as a joke or mockery.

"Who has not criticized Carlos Torres", 'Solidarity, fellow critic of power' or 'I support you, no to censorship' were some of the messages that could be read in the publication.

It is not clear what Macalpin's role will be from now on, but if there is one thing for sure is that he will take advantage of his virality to undertake new projects.
