On Friday, Shakira set a new world record by becoming the most liked person on Facebook with over 100 million likes on her Facebook page.

Following her Facebook feat, the Colombian singer posted a Facebook video thanking her fans for their love and support.

"That is incredible," Shakira said in her video. "Thank you so much for your support, for your loyalty, for your love. It's really unbelievable. Thank you so much."

As of Saturday afternoon, The "Empire" singer now has 100,416,408 likes and counting.

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, was among the many people to congratulate Shakira on her Facebook record.  [Today.com]

"Congrats!" Zuckerberg commented on Shakira's Facebook page. "What an amazing milestone for an amazing person."

Shakira later posted another video showcasing her top moments since joining Facebook in 2008.

"To celebrate Shak being the first person to reach 100 million Facebook fans, here's a look back at her time on Facebook so far!," read the caption underneath the video.

The end of the video featured a handwritten note by the singer thanking her fans again for propelling her "on this incredible journey." She concluded, "I couldn't do it without you all!"

Prior to her world record, Shakira's Facebook popularity was eminent.

In March, Shakira became the most liked musician on Facebook with 86.3 million likes, Billboard.com reports.

But, according to Variety, Shakira's recent growth in Facebook friends seemed to come after performing her song "La La La (Brazil 2014") at this year's World Cup closing ceremony.

The "La La La" music video, which has been viewed over 236 million times, helped catapult Shakira's fan base and social media following.

"I am honored and humbled about reaching this milestone," Shakira, 37, told People Magazine. "Social media and specifically Facebook has helped myself and other artists bridge the gap between the stage and the audience."
