Liverpool reportedly made an inquiry about the availability of Radamel Falcao in the hope of acquiring the Monaco striker to fill in the void Luis Suarez left this summer.

The Daily Star UK reported on Friday that Liverpool, who are looking to continue making noise in the English Premier League after finishing second last season, have launched a lucrative bid for Falcao.

Sources indicated that the Reds are willing to get the Colombian striker on loan for a potential fee of £10 million, while also shouldering Falcao's £200,000-a-week salary.

However, Liverpool's bid was reportedly turned down with sources suggesting that Falcao is not interested in moving to the Premier League next season, which means that Reds boss Brendan Rodgers will have to continue searching for a striker after also failing to acquire Alexis Sanchez and Loic Remy earlier this summer.

According to reports, Falcao, who missed the 2014 FIFA World Cup due to a knee injury, will only leave Monaco if he receives an offer to play for Real Madrid next season.

Falcao has continuously been linked to Real Madrid over the past several weeks, and talks about an impending return to Spain intensified when his agent, Jorge Mendes, was spotted in a meeting with Madrid president Florentino Perez.

However, Monaco sporting director Vadim Vasilyev told L'Equipe that they have no ongoing discussion with Real Madrid for a possible move to this summer.

Vasilyev pointed out that he sat down with Real Madrid officials several times, especially when they were negotiating for James Rodriguez's move to Spain, but Falcao's name was not mentioned in all discussions.

"We have met several times with Real Madrid representatives [during talks for James Rodriguez's transfer], but we never even spoke about Falcao," Vasilyev said via Goal.com. "There has not been an offer and we are not in negotiations. The truth is that Falcao will play with Monaco again in 2014-15."

Vasilyev said that they are thrilled to have Falcao back after being sidelined by an ACL injury, adding that he was impressed with the 28-year-old's performance in a recent friendly against Arsenal where he scored the lone goal of the match.

"Sunday's performance against Arsenal confirmed Falcao's status as a great forward. He missed the World Cup through injury and that's always tough psychologically, but he has character and I hope this will be his season at Monaco," Vasilyev said.
