Not only will Season 6 of the "The Vampire Diaries" be filled with shocking twists and turns, it will also include a foil that will appear throughout the upcoming the season.

TVD executive producer Julie Plec opened up to E! News about the Season 6 villian, promising that "There is a big bad, it's a long, slow-burn mythology that will unfold over the course of the entire season and will really impact each of our character in deep ways and it's smart and it's interesting and it's small, which I like," she teased.

"Instead of trying to top ourselves year to year, we try to scale back and see if we can keep it really personal and rooted in character," Plec added.

The showrunner also dropped a few hints about Damon and Bonnie, who died as The Other Side was destroyed in the epic finale of Season 5.

According to TV Guide, Damon and Bonnie will be trapped in a mysterious location that will be disclosed by the second episode in the new season.

"Although the setting may look familiar, the duo is definitely in a place that's foreign to them," warns TV Guide.

There is also speculation that the two characters are actually trapped in limbo and could ended up getting really close to one another, and may be even closer than friends.

Although Plec has neither confirmed nor denied the theory that their love-hate relationship will blossom into a romance, she did tease that actress Kat Graham and actor Ian Somerhalder's close off-screen relationship could translate to great chemistry on camera.

"You never know, but what we did want to do is we wanted to service the Bamon relationship from the books and at least give those two characters an opportunity -- that we never thought we'd have frankly cause they never liked each other, and for good reason -- to bond and get close and to be comrades," said Plec, according to MoviePilot.com. "So it will start there, and it may never go any further--that's not the plan, but you never know," added TVD writer and producer.

Season 6 of "The Vampire Diaries" will return to The CW on Oct. 2 at 8 p.m. EST.
