A man fell from an elevated pedestrian walkway and died at San Francisco's Candlestick Park during the 49ers game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

According to the Associated Press, authorities said several people saw him fall, and witnesses have said that the man, who fell onto the Jamestown walkway, appeared intoxicated when he fell just minutes after the season-opening kickoff. Off-duty medical personnel tried to rescue the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man's identity is being withheld until his family members are contacted.

The 49ers released a statement after learning about the incident in the stadium. "We would like to express our deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time," team spokesperson Bob Lange said.

The falling incident was not the only one of the weekend. Two people were injured after falling in Indianapolis after the Colts' home opener against the Oakland Raiders, but everyone survived. A rail collapsed above a team's tunnel, and according to witnesses, one fan was put on a stretcher while another ended up in a wheelchair.

Barney Levengood, executive director of the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium, said one of the fans was released from the hospital after a medical evaluation while the other remained hospitalized. Levengood said there were likely no serious injuries.

The incidents occurred as the NFL kicked off the first weekend of football since February. There were 13 games across the country on Sunday after Thursday night's season opener. There will be two Monday night games, with the first game starting at 6:55 p.m. and the second game getting underway at 10:15 p.m.
