NFL fans were all smiles this past weekend as their favorite teams were finally back in action for the first time since last winter.

The first week of play featured some exciting games, including a heavy dose of four primetime games spanning three different nights. The Denver Broncos put on a show behind Peyton Manning's record seven touchdowns en route to a season-opening victory over the defending champion Baltimore Ravens.

In the other primetime games of the weekend, two NFC East battles took place to go along with an AFC matchup between the Chargers and Texans. In Dallas on Sunday night, a sloppy Giants squad fell to the Cowboys while LeBron James, Hulk Hogan, and even Chris Christie watched from the owner's box with Jerry Jones. On Monday evening, the Eagles got off to a flying start under new head coach Chip Kelly in a 33-27 victory over the Redskins. In Monday's late night game, the Chargers blew a 21-point lead and lost to the Texans to wrap up the NFL's first week of play.

The day games on Sunday were exciting as well; the 49ers flexed their muscles in a big victory over the Packers to justify the bold predictions for the 49ers this season. And despite all of the drama that seems to follow the New York Jets, rookie quarterback Geno Smith showed up ready to play. The Jets eked out an 18-17 win to open the season. Other AFC East teams also played close games this week as the New England Patriots escaped Buffalo with a 23-21 win thanks to Tom Brady's late game-winning drive.

The second week of games will kick off with another AFC East matchup on Thursday night when the Jets travel to New England in a battle of two of the division's unbeaten teams. The Bills remain the only team in the division without a win after Week 1 after the Dolphins edged the Browns in a 23-10 win.
