Jeremy Lin will start for the Los Angeles Lakers when they open their season against the Houston Rockets on Tuesday at Staples Center.

First-year Lakers coach Byron Scott confirmed that Lin will be their starting point guard after veteran playmaker Steve Nash was ruled out for the rest of the season.

Ironically, Lin will make his first start against the Rockets, the team that made him a backup to Patrick Beverley in majority of their games last season, but Lin pointed out that he has nothing against his former team and teammates.

"I have a great relationship with so many guys over there," Lin said of the Rockets via Los Angeles Daily News. "It's not like I hate whoever with my former teammates or coaches. I still talk to them."

The 26-year-old point guard started in all 82 regular-season games during the 2012-13 NBA season, buth he only started in 33 games last season after being bumped off by Beverley.

Lin said that he has nothing against the Rockets, saying that he just realized that there is nothing guaranteed in the NBA, which is also the reason why he knows that being named as starter for the start of the season could still change after several games.

"That's just something I have to continue to take day by day," Lin said of starting for the Lakers via ESPN. "The reason I say that is my whole experience in Houston taught me that nothing is guaranteed, but if I do get a bigger role or a bigger chance, I'm going to try to do everything I can with it and have fun with it."

Lin missed three preseason games after sustaining an ankle injury, but coach Scott is confident that the former Harvard University standout will do well as a starter in the upcoming season.

"I expect him to play well," Scott said of Lin, who averaged 12.5 points and 4.1 assists per game. "I expect him to run the offense, handle the ball and do the things Jeremy Lin is capable of doing with knocking down shots, getting into the paint and being the catalyst and leader of the team on the offensive end."
