The Kansas City Chiefs have emerged as one of the scariest teams in the National Football League.

At 7-3, the Chiefs are tied for first place in the AFC West with the Denver Broncos. The Chiefs have been red hot lately, winning their last five consecutive games, with their latest victory coming against the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, 24-20.

With six games remaining in the season, the Chiefs are in the driver's seat to win the AFC West.

The last time the Chiefs lost a game was in Week 5 to the San Francisco 49ers. Despite the fact that the Broncos have won this division the last three consecutive seasons, and the reality that Peyton Manning has owned the Chiefs, the Broncos are in serious jeopardy of losing their division crown for a number of reasons.

How can this be? Why would the Chiefs have the advantage over the Broncos even though Denver defeated Kansas City in Week 2?

Moving forward, the Chiefs have divisional play on their side, whereas the Broncos have the schedule against them. The Chiefs still get to play the winless Oakland Raiders two more times this season, while the Broncos have already played the Raiders earlier this year. Of course, one of the biggest factors to remember is home field advantage. The Broncos did defeat the Chiefs, 24-17, but that was at Mile High Stadium. In Week 13, the Chiefs and Broncos will face each other on Sunday Night Football at Arrowhead Stadium, the loudest stadium in the NFL.

The Broncos are 2-3 on the road this season. Last season, they were an outstanding 6-2 on the road.

Another piece to keep in mind -- the San Diego Chargers.

Even though the Chargers and Chiefs are division rivals, they can help each other out when it comes to dethroning the Broncos. The Chiefs have already played the tougher portion of their divisional schedule. Not only have the Chiefs already traveled to Denver, but they also went into San Diego and beat the Chargers in Week 7, picking up a road win. So how can the Chargers help the Chiefs? The Chargers will host the Broncos in Week 15, and you can bet every Chiefs fan will be rooting root for the Bolts to come out on top in that game.

The Chiefs remaining division schedule is favorable. They will face the winless Raiders twice, the Broncos at home and the Chargers at home.

Since Peyton Manning became a Bronco, the Chiefs haven't had an answer for him. Manning is 5-0 as a starter as the Broncos quarterback against the Chiefs. If the Chiefs are going to take advantage of this great opportunity, they must finally defeat the reigning NFL Most Valuable Player.

The Chiefs' defense has been fantastic this season. The Chiefs have the No. 1 pass defense and rank No. 2 in points allowed this season at just 17.1. As usual, Justin Houston and Tamba Hali are tormenting quarterbacks with their pass rush, and Dontari Poe already has a career-high five sacks this season. Houston leads the NFL with 12 sacks.

The Chiefs' defense hasn't allowed a single rushing touchdown this entire season.

Although the Chiefs are the only team to not throw a touchdown to a wide receiver this season, their offense still ranks 12th overall in scoring. Alex Smith has led the Chiefs to three game-winning drives, but as we all know, the offense revolves around running back Jamaal Charles, who has a team-leading 692 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. Knile Davis is having a breakout season, but Dwayne Bowe will have to improve his play down the stretch for the Chiefs.

These Chiefs are the epitome of an "old school" football team.

The Chiefs have yet to defeat Manning as a Bronco, but this will be their best chance at winning the AFC West under head coach Andy Reid. The Chiefs should win their four remaining division games if they want the best chance at winning the division and possibly having a first round bye. With this elite defense and a five-game win streak, the Chiefs are heading in the right direction.
