On Wednesday night, the cast and title of the 24th James Bond motion picture was finally announced amidst rumors going back since the prior billion-dollar grossing feature length film, "Skyfall."

Thanks to an all-star cast that includes the return of Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris and newcomers such as two-time Academy Award-winner Christoph Waltz, César-nominated actress Monica Bellucci, Olivier-winner Andrew Scottfans and alme d'Or-winning actress Léa Seydoux as Madeleine Swann, the Bond girl.

Fans of the multi-billion dollar franchise inspired by the seminal series by Ian Fleming took to the Internet with memes exploding across social media. Many moviegoers upped the ante with an extra level of snark.

Merry Frizmas tweeted a photo with the caption, "Oh. So the plot is that Bond goes undercover on Celebrity Big Brother. '@007: First teaser poster for #SPECTRE.'"

Declan Cashin, Homepage Editor of BuzzFeed UK, joked, "Seeing as Ben Whishaw will be back playing Q in #Bond24, can we call him In-Spectre Gadget?"

Filming for "Spectre" will commence in December and is slated to be released on Oct. 23, 2015 in the United Kingdom and Nov. 6, 2015 in the United States.

Andrew Scott, who played Professor James "Jim" Moriarty in BBC's "Sherlock" opposite Benedict Cumberbatch, will play a character called Denbigh, though it isn't clear if he's playing a mastermind villain or not.

"Andrew was hand-picked for a role in the new Bond movie after film bosses loved his star turn in Sherlock," a source told the The Independent. "Casting directors thought he was perfect to play a baddie and they wanted to use his existing Sherlock profile -- and amp it up to the next level. Andrew is hoping the move will see him leap from TV to the big screen, where he can eventually divide his time between London and LA. He knows this is his big break."

In addition, an official James Bond car, an Aston Martin DB10, was revealed at a press conference according to BuzzFeed. This will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the automobile company's association with the franchise.

CBS News White House Correspondent Mark Knoller took to Twitter on Thursday morning to stop the rumor mills from spinning.

"SPECTRE acronym for Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion. Was headed by Ernst Stavro Blofeld," Knoller reported.

Waxing nostalgic about his youth watching the films, Knoller said that it "Seems like yesterday I played hooky in 1964 to see 'Goldfinger' on 1st day in theaters. My wayward past. 'No, Mr Bond, I expect you to die. ... Better title for new Bond film might be: 'SPECTRE - The British Empire Strikes Back.' Gets a Star Wars boost."

In September 2012, it was announced that Daniel Craig, who has starred as the film's protagonist since Martin Campbell directed "Casino Royale" in 2006, had signed on to the role of Bond for the next two films, which will be funded by MGM and Sony, according to Empire.

With a combined gross of over $13.8 billion, the feature-length films produced by Eon has established the James Bond franchise as the third-highest-grossing film series, behind the "Harry Potter" and Marvel Cinematic Universe films respectively.
