The story of how the president and the first lady fell in love will soon be coming to the big screen. An upcoming biopic will showcase Barack and Michelle Obama's first date while they were living in Chicago.

In "Southside With You," filmmaker Richard Tanne will follow a historic account of what happened when Barack–then a law student–took out his future wife for the first time in 1989.

Tanne will be joined for the project by Tracey Bing and producer Stephanie Allain from "Hustle & Flow," as well as Allain's Homegrown Pictures.

Actress Tika Sumpter is set to play Michelle, adding the role to her long list of career endeavors, which include television host, singer and model. Sumpter's acting credits include parts in "Get On Up" and "Ride Along," and she currently stars on OWN's "The Haves and Have Nots." There is no word yet on who will play a younger version of the president.

Tanne wrote an original screenplay for the film, working along Sumpter, who helped develop the story and will serve as an executive producer. Filming will take place in Chicago next summer as soon as an actor is cast for the male lead.

The story will follow the courtship of the Obamas, which will show the first-year Harvard Law student taking a summer job with the Chicago law firm Sidley Austin. It is there that he meets and falls for his young boss, Michelle Robinson.

"Stephanie [Allain] and I are excited to produce this smart and timeless film that sheds light on one of the great love stories of our time," Bing said. "Richard [Tanne] really captures the essence of that romantic connection between Barack and Michelle that is so evident in the way that they look at each other. We are looking forward to finding the perfect Barack."
