Fanboys unite! Finally, The King of the Seven Seas is getting his own animated film, "Justice League: Throne of Atlantis," which from the looks of the trailer will trace his origin and lay to waste those terrible rumors that he's the least powerful (or interesting) of the pantheon of heroes.

"We are thrilled to introduce this exciting new Justice League film to fans with the release of Justice League: Throne of Atlantis," Mary Ellen Thomas, WBHE vice president of Family & Animation Marketing and Partner Brands said via a press release. "As the Justice League saga continues to expand, fans are looking for exciting new adventures for this vibrant group of super heroes and this brand-new film is sure to deliver!"

The press release revealed the synopsis for the upcoming film.

"... Cyborg discovers an imminent threat in the depths of the oceans so powerful that it rallies together the newly formed Justice League," the release reads. "Meanwhile, wandering thousands of feet above the ocean floor is drifter Arthur Curry, a man with strange powers who may be the last chance to bridge the ancient Atlantean world with our own. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the Justice League must band together as they face off against warmongering Orm, an army of sea creatures, otherworldly weapons and perilous odds. ... mankind's only hope of escaping from the darkness lies with the guiding light of a man -- Aquaman!"

The Justice League, including Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, will return after the events of 2014's "Justice League: War," part of a series of DC Comics-themed movies. In that film, Shazam appears in the place of Aquaman, who originally appeared in Geoff Johns and Jim Lee's 2011 story "Justice League: Origin," the comic book that inspired the film. Announcements of the 75-minute addition to the DC Universe Original Movies series were made in June. It will be released on Blu-rayTM Combo Pack, DVD and Digital HD on Jan. 27, 2015.

Viewers will also get a sneak peak at the upcoming "Batman vs. Robin" animated film.

"We meet him at a low point in his life," supervising producer James Tucker told TV Guide. "He's a little bit lost. His father has died and he's always been an outsider, so the one person who had his back is now gone. When [the] Atlanteans instigate incidents to escalate a war with the surface world, he doesn't yet know who he is. As he discovers his true history he's going to have a lot of choices to make. It's definitely about him finding his own path."

Primetime television star Matt Lanter, who will voice Aquaman, will steer a passenger liner of celebrities that include Sam Witwer as Ocean Master, Jason O'Mara as Batman, Christopher Gorham as Flash, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Shemar Moore as Cyborg, Rosario Dawson as Wonder Woman, Jerry O'Connell as Superman, and Sean Astin as Shazam. The film also stars Sumalee Montano as Mera, Sirena Irwin as Queen Atlanna, and Harry Lennix as Manta.

According to Comic Book Resources, Lanter said he wasn't a follower of the comic or the character until he began filming.

"I didn't know a lot about Aquaman -- I haven't even seen the film yet. The only exposure I've had to Aquaman is through the 'Entourage' TV show," Lanter said. "On the show, they were more or less poking fun at the character. I know that Aquaman is taken a little bit like that. He's a superhero that is sometimes forgotten and made fun of in a way. I know it's because of his powers, people try to dumb it down and say, 'Oh, he talks to fish.' There's so much more to him than that, which is exciting about this film coming out. I hope it sets Aquaman fans ablaze again, and maybe those who aren't Aquaman fans can gain a new appreciation of the character."

Studios recently confirmed 35-year-old actor Jason Momoa signed a film contract with DC Entertainment to star in a live-action adaptation of the "Aquaman" comics. According to Collider, reports claim that Momoa is signed for four films, beginning with "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice."

Momoa in this role is picture-perfect, considering Mamoa began his career on the hit TV show "Baywatch" in 1999.

"He will be a badass. Otherwise they wouldn't cast me for the role," he said.

Momoa also revealed he wants Zack Snyder, who directed live-action adaptations of "300," "Watchmen" and "Man of Steel," behind the camera for the upcoming film.

Snyder, who will direct "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," the 2016 superhero film starring new members Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Jena Malone and Holly Hunter has been tapped to take control of all subsequent Justice League films.

The standalone "Aquaman" blockbuster will be released in July 2018.

Warner Bros. Entertainment announced in late-October a two-part, live-action "Justice League" film will be released in 2017 and 2019.
