The "Extreme Aeroshow" held this past Saturday, October 5th, was the site a gruesome scene, when a driver steering a monster truck by the name of "Big Show" launched his vehicle into a crowd of spectators, killing eight people and injuring 79 others, said officials.

The three-day show, held in the northern city of Chihuahua in Mexico, which included performances by airplanes and monster trucks, ended early and tragically when a driver, Francisco Velazquez lost control of his monster truck equipped with 5-foot tires just after leaping over two cars. He struck his head on the interior of the truck when landing and was unable to immediately recover, veering into the stands and hitting members of the audience.

According to witnesses, Velazquez's helmet came off just before the large vessel drove into the frightened audience.

Velazquez was detained on Sunday under the suspicion of manslaughter, and authorities are checking to see that all regulations were met at the airplane and truck rally prior to the demolition stunts, including internal mechanics.

There was no protective barrier between the performance ground and the stands, which undoubtedly added to the number of fatalities and injuries. And, while Velazquez struck his head and mechanical failure is suspected (he may have been unable to disengage his accelerator), he did test positive for alcohol consumption. Though, it has not been said if his level of consumption had violated any laws.

Photos and video footage recorded the event, documenting the truck mowing down the audience members. Paramedics arrived on the scene soon after and evacuated those who were injured. Up to 50 individuals were taken to the hospital. Of the eight people that died, three of them were children; of the 79 that were hurt, twelve remain in intensive care, and four are in critical condition.
