During a recent interview with Hit Fix, Gabrielle Union discussed her experience starring as fictional reality TV star Erica Long in the Chris Rock-directed and scripted film "Top Five."

Though the film suggests that Long's character is modeled after the infamous "housewives"on Bravo, Union revealed that she chose to base her "Top Five" role on the Kardashian and Braxton sisters.

"I never looked at [Erica] like as a 'Real Housewife' but more of like a Kardashian or maybe one of, like, the Braxton sisters," Union said. "So I kind of approached it a little differently and I think [it helped."]

Union also praised the Kardashians and Braxtons for their intelligence.

"... I actually know some of the Kardashians and know some of the Braxtons, you know, that they're real people and that they're a lot more intelligent than people give them credit for," she said.

Unlike the public perception that reality TV stars are often at the mercy of many television networks, Union explained she aimed to portray Long as a character who is in control and has more depth and substance.

"I jumped at the chance to actually make [Erica] a little bit more unexpected than what the audience is going to assume about her. To make her a little deeper, a little bit more calculating, a little bit more in charge and powerful than we sort of assume about reality stars," she said.

In addition to speaking with Hit Fix, Union also spoke with Oprah for OWN's "Who am I" series to discuss her "greatest joys in life," the Huffington Post reports. She mentioned her love of peace, quiet and tranquility and also named a few surprising things that she feels add joy to her life.

"I love a lot of things that people would not expect me to love," Union said. "Like country music. Like line dancing. Like organizing Tupperware."
