NBC premiered the first episode of its seventh and final season of "Parks and Recreation" on Tuesday night.

The final 13 episodes picked up right where the Season 6 finale left off, which is in the year 2017, three years after Leslie began working at the National Parks department and had triplets with Ben.

"It's made things a little more exciting this year," executive producer Mike Schur told TV Guide in regard to the flash-forward. "We were able to accelerate through three additional unseen years of all of their lives and really get them to a place where they've been through a lot."

The second half of the two-episode season premiere took place in Chicago as Andy Dwyer and Tom Haverford decided to travel to the Windy City in order to search for Haverford's ex-girlfriend.

In the episode, Haverford awakes to find that he accidentally took a cab to Chicago from Indiana City, which cost him $830. Dwyer and Haverford then begin their journey and eventually run into Haverford's ex-girlfriend, Lucy. As soon as they see her, they lie and say they are there because Dwyer got a new job as the head coach for the Chicago Bulls. Lucy suggests that they should meet up after work, which prompts Tom to pitch going out for deep-dish pizza and watching the Bears, reports NBC.

Others scenes take place include city landmarks like Millennium Park, North Avenue Beach and Wrigley Field.

According to Schur, TV viewers can look forward to seeing Leslie "playing in a bigger playground" and "dealing with much bigger issues."

"There's a gigantic battle that is waged for. It's sort of Leslie Knope's final big project," Schur says. "She's fighting a corporation for control over something. The arc of the season is about what I think is probably the most important issue facing America, which is not just public sector vs. private sector, but specifically it becomes about the issue of privacy."
