Rosie Perez is reportedly calling it quits as a host on ABC's "The View" after only four months.

According to Variety, the 50-year-old actress took leave for the month of January to appear in the Broadway play "Fish in the Dark," written by Larry David. However, inside sources say she will not be returning to the morning show as originally planned. Instead, the producers of "The View" are trying out other younger co-hosts to fill her seat.

Variety reports that Perez "never got a hang of the show's mixture of hard and soft news, and she had trouble reading from a teleprompter," according to sources.

Despite the speculation, ABC denies Perez is leaving the show.

"Rosie Perez is currently in rehearsal for her Broadway play for the month of January," an ABC rep told Us Weekly. "Her status with the show has not changed."

Insiders previously told The New York Daily News Perez was a wreck behind the scenes and wrestled with internal criticism.

"She's constantly correcting herself because she's constantly screwing something up," a show insider said back in November.

Perez joined "The View" last September, along with new co-hosts Rosie O'Donnell and Nicolle Wallace. The "Do The Right Thing" star was handpicked by the show's new executive producer Bill Wolff as a last-minute choice following the retirement of news veteran Barbara Walters.

The show has also spent millions of dollars to drastically restructure the show with a new panel of hosts, new producers and a new studio. In addition, "The View" moved from ABC Daytime to a special production unit of ABC News in October. Still, this has not helped the show's ratings this season. As a result, there may be more changes to come at the show, both behind and in front of the camera.
