The Best Supporting actress category is one of the most predictable categories this year at the Academy Awards.

One actress has dominated the category throughout the precursors and has also been hailed by critics alike.

She will likely join previous winners Lupita Nyong'o ("12 years a Slave"), Anne Hathaway ("Les Miserables"), Octavia Spencer ("The Help"), Melissa Leo ("The Fighter") and Mo'Nique ("Precious"). Latin Post.com takes a look at some of the Best Supporting Actress nominees:

Patricia Arquette - "Boyhood"

For her role in the Richard Linklater film, Arquette received her first nomination at the Academy Awards. The actress is best known for her work on the television show "Medium" and has also starred in "Ed Wood" and "True Romance." Arquette is currently the front-runner to win the category, especially after having won the Golden Globe and having dominated the critics' awards. She has thus far won at the New York Film Critics, the Los Angeles Film Critics and the Critics' Choice awards. She also stars in the film that most pundits believe will take home the Best Picture award.

Laura Dern - "Wild"

Dern was the big surprise on the morning of the Oscar Nominations announcements. The actress received her second nomination, as she was previously nominated for her role in "Rambling Rose." Throughout awards season, Dern has been absent as her performance never generated enough buzz. She was snubbed from the Screen Actors Guild, the Golden Globe and the Critics' Choice awards. As a result, it is unlikely she has a chance of winning this category. As a matter of fact, her big win was the surprise nomination she received for her role in "Wild."

Keira Knightley - "The Imitation Game"

Nine years after her first nomination, Knightley was able to obtain her second nomination. She was previously nominated for her role in 2005's "Pride and Prejudice." Throughout her career, Knightley has been hailed for her work in period pieces and was on the verge of Oscar nominations for her work in "Atonement" and "Anna Karenina." However, critics were mixed on her performances. This year, her work has received a lot of attention, but she has not won a single critics' prize. Instead, she has had to settle for Golden Globe, Critics' Choice, BAFTA and SAG nominations. Unless she is able to pull an upset at the SAG awards or the BAFTAs, Knightley should expect to go home empty-handed.

Emma Stone - "Birdman"

Stone received her first nominations for her work in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's comic drama "Birdman." She is known for her work on "The Amazing Spider-Man" and received her first Golden Globe for her role on "Easy A." For her work in "Birdman," Stone was hailed for show-stopping work and for her dramatic transformation. She also obtained awards at the Boston Film Critics and received nominations at the BAFTA, Golden Globes, SAG and Critics' Choice awards. However, she has not collected enough statues to be the front-runner. Unless Stone's film wins the Academy Award and surprises, don't expect the young actress to take home her first Oscar.

Meryl Streep - "Into the Woods"

For her work on "Into the Woods," Streep received her 19th nomination and continued to be the most awarded actress of all time. It is the first time since 2002 when she was nominated for "Adaptation" that Streep obtained a nomination in the supporting category. She previously won for her work on 2011's "The Iron Lady," 1979's "Kramer Vs. Kramer" and 1982's "Sophie's Choice." This year Streep has no chances of winning, as her film did not obtain the traction most pundits expected and she missed out on the BAFTA nomination. Streep also failed to appeal to critics and has not won a single precursor award. With Streep currently working on a number of high profile projects, this won't be the last nomination for the most celebrated actress of all time.

Prediction

Patricia Arquette will win her first Academy Award and will be among the prizes that the Best Picture film wins.
