EA Sports announced this week that it would be ending its partnership with world-famous golfer Tiger Woods after a decade and a half, effectively ending an era.

Woods spent 15 years with his face and name gracing the popular golf video game. According to the company's vice president and general manager, Daryl Holt, the decision to drop Woods from the game was a mutual decision.

"We've always been big fans of Tiger and we wish him continued success in all his future endeavors," Holt said.

Woods' agent, Mark Steinberg, echoed Holt's words about the mutual decision, saying that "times are changing and EA had to re-evaluate the partnership, and so did we."

"We had an incredible run," Steinberg said. "Outside of [John] Madden, you would be hard pressed to find a sports figure that meant as much to a video game company as Tiger meant to EA."

Despite the popularity of the EA Sports PGA Tour game, Woods' agent said he is currently talking with another company about Woods' naming rights for a video game.

Since most golfers and golf fans have only known the PGA Tour video game as a Tiger Woods-themed game, it is unclear whether the game will experience a decline in sales or popularity without the world's number one golfer on the cover. Furthermore, if a new video game does grace Woods' face, could that game take over the spot for the top golf video game? It will most likely depend on the gameplay more than anything else, but in the case of a game like PGA Tour that has made its money from selling Tiger Woods, who knows what the future will hold.
