The Boston Red Sox have waited long enough, but they'll have to wait just a little bit longer.

It has been nearly four decades since Game 6 of a World Series matchup was played at Fenway Park, so the Red Sox made sure to get out on the field and practice before the game tonight. However, the Cardinals were nowhere to be seen.

While Boston players were playing catch on the field at Fenway, the Cards were stuck in St. Louis with plane trouble. St. Louis manager Mike Matheny was supposed to have a scheduled press conference at Fenway, but instead he did it on the plane.

"Yeah, we've been sitting on the runway for a while," he said. "But everybody seems to be doing all right. We're fortunate that our club allows our families to travel with us. We have some younger kids. But I'm impressed with how everybody has handled it. Fortunately we have plenty of food, snacks for the kids, lots of entertainment with on-board movies, and everybody travels with all their high-tech stuff. Most of these kids are pretty happy that they're not in school right now, and it's a great way to spend a day, and no complaints so far."

The plane did not leave St. Louis until after 9 p.m., which was more than seven hours after it was supposed to take off. The team stayed onboard for the entire day and just stayed busy with various activities.

Game 6 starter Michael Wacha echoed Matheny's comments and said everyone was doing just fine despite the delay.

"Everyone is just watching movies," Wacha said of the delay. "They've got dinner on here for us and stuff. Everyone is just walking around. Nobody is in a bad mood or anything like that. The attitude is pretty good."

The Red Sox have a 3-2 lead over the Cards heading into Game 6. Boston only needs to win one of the two remaining games at home to secure the World Series title.
