"Ghosts are real, this much I know" -- a line from Oscar winning director Guillermo del Toro's "Crimson Peak" that will be sure to spook you.

The Mexican director is returning to his horror roots with "Crimson Peak," reminiscent of his Spanish classics -- "The Devil's Backbone," "Cronos" and "Pan's Labyrinth." He is bringing his gothic, sexy and imaginative fright back, which is a significant contrast to his fantasy/sci-fi "Hellboy" movies, "Pacific Rim," "Kung-Fu Panda 2" as well as more recent animated film, "The Book of Life" with Jorge Gutierrez.

The "master of dark fairy tales," "Crimson Peak" has been called a "haunting gothic horror story," which stars Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston and Charlie Hunnam.

The Legendary and Universal Pictures' upcoming supernatural thriller has just debuted on iTunes Movie Trailers and has sparked a lot of buzz.

"Crimson Peak" will be an English-language production, however. In the past, del Toro warned his fans who have only ever seen his English-language films to brace themselves for "the radical change in direction" in his new haunted house film.

"Crimson Peak is a much, much, much smaller movie, completely character-driven," del Toro said in an earlier interview. "It's an adult movie, an R-rated movie, pretty adult. Shockingly different from anything I've done in the English language. Normally, when I go to do a movie in America for the spectacle and younger audience, for 'Blade' or whatever. This movie's tone is scary and it's the first time I get to do a movie more akin to what I do in the Spanish movies."

The film has also been considered to be a "classic Gothic romance," that also turns up the heat.

"[Crimson Peak] has moments that are very visceral, physical violence. You're in this sort of sedate romance and then there is this brutal moment where you're like, 'Whoa!' And it has a lot of kinky moments. The only kinky moment I've ever shot is the leg f*ck in 'The Devil's Backbone.' [laughs] This has a little more kinkiness than that."

Back in July 2014, filmmaker, founder and chairman of El Rey Robert Rodriguez, who is also a longtime friend of del Toro, featured him in "El Rey Network Presents: The Director's Chair," where he provided fascinating insight on his creative craft.

"To this day ... the most thrilled I've ever been about making movies is that first time," del Toro told Rodriguez.

"Crimson Peak" is co-written by del Toro and Matthew Robbins. Executive producers include Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, del Toro, Callum Greene and Jillian Share.
