The 2013 American Music Awards are set to air live this Sunday, Nov. 24th on ABC. That night, America gets a taste of a little Latin flavor with recording artist Pitbull hosting the show. It will also be the AMA's first time honoring an artist with an Icon Award. Who might this artist be? None other than our "island gal" Rihanna. "The award was created to honor an artist whose work has influenced pop music on a global level," confirms MSN.

Rihanna has released 7 albums in 7 years; she has had 12 number-one singles on the music charts and won 6 Grammy awards. She has also sold 50 million albums and 180 million digital tracks worldwide. And all of this at just 25 years old, not too shabby huh?

Producer Larry Klein adds; "Rihanna's iconic and innovative sound has enabled her to become one of the most influential artist of all time". Riri's fan base, or her "navy", as she calls them, are loyal supporters who I believe have a special appreciation for the way she shares her life with them, through social networks Twitter and Instagram. Rihanna is a big fan of sexy selfies and truly animated captions.

Now...don't let the sweet smile fool you, this girl is tough! Rihanna had to learn to make difficult decisions at a young age when back in 2009 she suffered a domestic violence incident with her on and off ex boyfriend Chris Brown. But as she juggled a career and a personal life publically (what an oxymoron) she learned to "Talk that Talk" and put her self first. Even though some people might not agree with her "bad gal" image Riri has realized that this is who she is and how she feels comfortable, not caring what anyone says. So go ahead Rihanna, keep making your hits and giving us those club bangers that we can't stop jumping to on the dance floor!

Also performing on this very special night will be Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, One Direction, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Imagine Dragons, Ke$ha and TLC! Of course Riri will also be performing so make sure you tune in to watch the 2013 American Music Awards live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, Calif.
